King, who was in the city supporting striking sanitation workers, was 39 at the time. 

The assassination left an indelible mark on the nation and on the civil rights movement. And while MLK is celebrated throughout the year for the legacy he left behind, several lawmakers took to Twitter today to pay tribute to the man whose “dream” lives on.
