This candid conversation came on the latest Angie Martinez’s “IRL” podcast, where Anthony finally addressed the demise of her marriage for the world to witness. “I’m sure there’s moments after everything that happened that you probably didn’t want to get up off the floor,” Martinez said, referencing her divorce.
“Yes, of course. The hardest part of my life and then playing it out publicly. So, then you have that part,” the “BMF” actress confirmed. “Like to where they are watching your every move, like ‘she looks sad, she looks depressed’ – they are watching everything.” Despite putting on a brave face, Anthony confessed she was battling her emotions daily. “So then you have to fake smile… and you’re dying inside.”
Fans followed their love story closely for years. Back on Christmas in 2004, La La, 46, and Carmelo, 41, announced their engagement. The couple gave viewers a front-row seat to their relationship in the VH1 reality series, “La La’s Full Court Wedding.” The two married in 2010 after they welcomed their son in 2007, a moment many believed was the start of their forever.
But their unexpected breakup shocked the public and quickly became one of the most talked-about celebrity splits, especially after news surfaced in 2017 that Carmelo had quietly welcomed a daughter, Genesis. That revelation ultimately brought their marriage to an end.
“It is incredibly hard, incredibly hard,” La La continued. “But what are you going to do? You gotta push forward, like every day a little bit stronger, stronger, stronger until you get past it.” Anthony even explains that she is still navigating through the effects of her marriage ending.
“There are days where it will be years later, where something will hit and it will just hurt and it will remind you of something, because I always say nobody gets married with the thought of getting divorced,” she explained.
Her honesty tugged at fans’ emotional strings online, as they rallied around her in the comments. “He was a public embarrassment to her,” one Instagram user posted. “I’m glad she finally walked away.” Another chimed in, “He had a baby on her, that’s the ultimate betrayal.”
A YouTube summed it up nicely: “Lala is a wife. You can tell she loved pouring into her family and Melo so much. I’m glad to hear she’s realizing she has to be good alone and even acknowledging work as a distraction. She doesn’t need a husband for validation, but she definitely deserves a “Russell Wilson” love.”
We’re sure The Russells have a matchmaking slot waiting for her.
