Killer Mike Speaks Out About His Shocking Arrest Post Grammy Win

Sunday night’s Grammy ceremony has had the internet buzzing for days. One of the event’s most shocking moments of the night was the arrest of Killer Mike, the Atlanta emcee who won awards for Best Rap Album (“MICHAEL”), Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance (both for “Scientists & Engineers”).

The artist’s excitement for having a “sweep” was deterred by an encounter with event security. Video of Killer Mike being escorted out of the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles circulated quickly around the internet, leaving everyone confused. The star released a statement expressing gratitude for everyone who showed support after his arrest.

“I do want to note that [Sunday] night, my team and I fielded a number of calls from concerned fans and colleagues wanting to know if I was OK. As you can imagine, there was a lot going and there was some confusion around which door my team and I should enter,” the statement read.

“We experienced an over-zealous security guard but my team and I have the upmost confidence that I will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing.” He also thanked the Recording Academy “for recognizing me and my team for the work that went into ‘MICHAEL.’ We are incredibly proud and are basking in this moment,” he said.

“I am also grateful that one of my prayers has been answered… I learned that my son, who has been on the list for a kidney for years, finally has a match. Obviously, we are elated.” However, a “well-placed LAPD source” told Rolling Stone that the situation was slightly more complex than that.

A woman security guard allegedly told police “she asked for Render’s tickets and directed him to a security checkpoint. At this point, she claims Render tried to make his way around her, and when she ‘ran around and got in front of him again’ he allegedly “pushed her to the ground,” per the outlet.
