It’s not everyday that Kid Cudi makes the news for something negative. But that’s exactly what happened recently thanks to his recent comments about the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

While Cudi himself is a multi-talented artist, that doesn’t excuse him from making some missteps along the way or sharing some opinions that may not be so well received. And unfortunately, the latter recently transpired after he hopped on X/Twitter to share his thoughts on Jackson’s star power and influence.
Though Cudi did acknowledge the “Remember the Time” artist as the greatest–he gave him a major caveat. And let’s just say, what he said didn’t land well with his fans or folks online afterwards.
“Michael was the greatest, but he was just music. Im thinkin more than music. I wanna be known as one of the greatest becuz of my range in the arts. Music, visual arts (painting), fashion, directing, acting etc [sic],” Cudi wrote in the since-deleted post.
Naturally, as you might expect, once folks on social media got wind of his words, they were primed and ready to tell him how wrong he was.
“Artists like Cudi talk like this because Michael Jackson destroys their sense of scale.. His shadow is too big for them to emotionally process.. The distance isn’t big, it’s impossible.. Pure, naked insecurity,” wrote one user on X/Twitter.
“Listen up and listen good, I’m a die hard cudi fan but Michael was my first. I love me some cudi but I don’t play about Michael. That wording is insane to me, we do not “just music” Michael he was an icon who broke barriers and records. Love both of y’all tho, but let’s be real,” said another.
Over on Instagram, similar sentiments were expressed.
“MJ is literally the reason we even have visual albums/cinema length music videos today,” one person said.
Added another: “Calling MJ just music is wild. He acted, directed, invented iconic dance styles, shaped fashion, broke MTV’s color barrier, was a businessman, and led humanitarian efforts. Also… who is comparing Kid Cudi to Mike Jack?”
“I wish Michael was here,” one user joked. “He would’ve bought bro whole catalogue just for talking.”
