After the shocking death of rapper Chris King, celebrities have taken to social media to mourn the artist. King, whose real name was Christopher Cheeks, died on Saturday (April 20) according to a press release from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
A 29-year-old man and King were with a group of friends when three men approached them and allegedly attempted to rob them. Gunfire rang out and King was later found in the parking garage of the Hayes Street Hotel. He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

King was only 32 years old. Artist Trippie Redd honored King on Instagram, writing he would “not be where I am today without [King].” He added: “I am so hurt rn I can’t even think I love you bro come back!!!!!”
Actress Keke Palmer also shared a heartfelt message. Palmer knew King from his days as a member of the R&B group 2 Much. “I wish I had more photos but it’s actually perfect because this is exactly how it began. iChat sessions with you and Marcel back in the 2Much days,” Palmer posted to Instagram.
“Wow. I can’t believe I’m saying rest in peace. This is terrible..You always knew how to make everyone laugh. Your kindness was present no matter what room you were in. Everybody was and wanted to be your friend. We will miss you. Until we meet again, rest heavenly brother.”
On his Instagram stories, pop star Justin Bieber wrote “Love you bro. This one hurts. Please keep his family in your prayers. See you in paradise brother.”
Rapper Machine Gun Kelly also wrote that “chris was rare.”
Nashville Police Department has stated that “Homicide Unit detectives are working strong” and actively pursuing leads regarding the case.
