Prolific music producer Jermaine Dupri is back in the headlines, but it isn’t for his recently dropped “Magic City” album. In fact, it’s got everything to do with his past relationship with Janet Jackson and what he has to say now has folks online speaking out.

As you well know by now Dupri and Jackson got together in 2002 and spent the next seven years together in a mostly positive relationship. Their breakup would come in 2009 with Dupri later revealing that his “workaholic” and “reckless” ways contributed to their relationship dissolution. Despite their unhappy ending the two have remained friends in the aftermath.
But fast forward to September 2025 and the hip-hop producer is having a hard time grasping why people looking back on his relationship with Jackson won’t stop saying he “fumbled’ her. Dupri said as much during a recent sit down on Hot 97 over the weekend where he told host Ness that he didn’t even understand the concept and wondered why people never said it was the other way around.
“I don’t know what a fumble is, though,” Dupri said. “I be trying to figure out why y’all don’t say she fumbled me. I’m not something that you just let roll down the street.”
He later added: “I don’t look at it like that. I look at it like it’s a relationship, and we were together for eight years.”
Now Jermaine, we’re gonna hold your hand when we say this but we all know why we felt like you fumbled Janet, a.k.a. let her be the one who got away. Yes, you were popping in your own right at the time y’all were together but…let’s be so for real. She’s Janet Jackson, an icon, a sex symbol, the guy nearly every man had a poster of or fantasized about. I’m not sure those same descriptors were or could be given to you to the same level.
As a matter of fact, we know they wouldn’t be because judging by the comment section of the video clip in that interview, more than a handful of folks felt similarly to us.
“JD is hilarious!! He said he tries to figure out why people don’t say Janet fumbled him!!! C’mon now, bruh,” wrote one user with three laughing emojis on YouTube.
“JD you clearly said on her documentary that you cheated on her. You fumbled on Janet. SMH,” said another.
“Um, no, Janet could NEVER fumble JD. It can ONLY be that he fumbled her. He messed up big time. His loss. Definitely not hers,” one other user wrote.
Added another: “I’m sorry a CHEATER, has always fumbled great women. Then they’re off to find a new man!”
What’s more is that Dupri has previously acknowledged how good he had it with Jackson so his comments are honestly a little crazy to hear.
