J'Adore! Zendaya Will Debut Her 1st Collab With Tommy Hilfiger During Paris Fashion Week

She’s already an It girl here in America, and now ingenue and fashion muse Zendaya will attempt to conquer France. According to industry site Fashionista, the actress and singer will debut the first capsule collection in her collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger with a presentation during Paris Fashion Week on Saturday, March 2.

Zendaya was announced as Hilfiger’s next global ambassador back in October. The happy news followed the brand’s September Fashion Month show in Shanghai, an inaugural collaboration with British racer Lewis Hamilton on their “see-now-buy-now” TommyNow capsule, which debuts simultaneously on the runway and in stores.

Zendaya will be juggling her new role with several film projects, including producing and starring in A White Lie as Anita Hemmings, the first African-American woman to attend Vassar—by passing as a white student. (Coincidentally Hemmings is also rumored to be a possible descendant of Sally Hemings and Thomas Jefferson.) No release date for the film has been announced.

In the meantime, at Hilfiger Zendaya will follow in the well-heeled footsteps of supermodel and former ambassador Gigi Hadid, who worked with the label for two years and collaborated on four collections shown in different international markets before passing the torch. Hilfiger is banking on Zendaya’s star quality to attract even more “Gen Z” devotees to the legacy brand, which has been experiencing consistent growth over the past several years.

“TommyNow has become an integral part of our brand story, celebrating our optimistic and inclusive energy [with] audiences globally,” Hilfiger told WWD. “For spring 2019, we can think of no better place to premiere the first TommyXZendaya collaborative collection than Paris. Our innovative ‘see-now-buy-now’ experiential show will blend our Americana heritage, Zendaya’s confidence and optimism, and the city’s iconic elements for a truly unforgettable runway event.”

While the prospect of TommyXZendaya is exciting, so far, the visuals aren’t giving much away. In a departure from the burgeoning fashion icon’s typically dynamic dressing, for the collab’s teasers, Zendaya is dressed down in a simple, loose-fitting white shirt and jeans combo, topped by a classic khaki trench.

But if the entertainer’s red carpet style—and that Summer of Love-inspired psychedelic print we keep catching glimpses of—are any indication, a transformative moment is in store, come March. We can also expect to see Zendaya starring in Hilfiger’s Spring 2019 campaign—and WWD buzzes exciting rumors of the brand staging its September Fashion Week show at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, N.Y.
