Welp, after months of speculation about why rapper Nicki Minaj would suddenly become a MAGA darling, the public may have finally found some answers! From her appearance at an Turning Point USA event to her praising President Donald Trump and beefing with Democrats, it seems the Trinidad-born artist may have been trying to cover herself. We previously told you Minaj was a special guest at the Trump Accounts Summit on Wednesday (Jan. 28). The rapper even took the stage, holding Trump’s hand before declaring she’s “probably the president’s number one fan, and that’s not going to change.” Minaj told the crowd all the hate she receives only further fuels her support for Trump. Later that night, she revealed a special gift she received from the president.
The “Anaconda” rapper took to social media, posting a picture of a Trump Gold Card, which she was gifted after the summit. If you’ll recall, The Root broke down the drama surrounding the Trump card– the president’s latest scheme fast tracking citizenship for folks willing to shell out $1 million and then some.
Minaj, who came to the U.S. illegally, confirmed in 2024 she’s not an American citizen. However, that’s about to change with the help of the Trump Card. She responded to haters in a second post. “Finalizing that citizenship paperwork as we speak as per MY wonderful, gracious, charming President,” Minaj tweeted.
She then gave a special shoutout to all those who signed a petition to have her deported. We also told you the viral petition reached over 60,000 signatures following Minaj’s appearance at a Turning Point USA event in December.
“Thanks to the petition,” the rapper added on X. “I wouldn’t have done it without you. Oh CitizenNIKA you are thee moment.” She also clarified the Gold Card was gifted to her completely “free of charge,” but she plans to contribute somewhere between $150,000 and $300,000 to the Trump accounts, according to CNBC.
To be expected, the internet quickly flooded with shocked users who didn’t see this one coming. @chiefflips tweeted, “you telling me she wasn’t a legal resident this entire time?!?!?”
“Nicki Minaj coon-twerking for a Trump Gold Card is the transaction I told you she’s coon-dancing for. She isn’t just a sellout, she’s bait to draw more Black ppl,” author and activist Dr. Shola Mos-Shogbamimu tweeted. “Bring. Back. Shame.”
Another user begged Minaj to just focus on making music. “Now that she got what she wanted, can we go back to music pls,” @Alexric12 said.
Even though the “Barbie Dreams” rapper has the card, she’s not automatically a U.S. citizen. According to the Department of Human Services (DHS), all Gold Card applicants must still go through “careful consideration” and an “in-depth background check” in order to finalize the deal.
