We all know and love “The Braxtons” and what they represent to Black culture, but it’s time we have an honest conversation about their “sisterhood.” As clips featuring some of our favorite moments circulate, they’re often overshadowed by deeper-rooted issues. And baby, we mean deep. It’s about time we accept that Tamar Braxton isn’t who we think she is—and turn our eyes to another sister who may be the true villain in the family.

In an effort to promote the show, Tamar Braxton went on an Instagram posting spree, sharing fan reactions to the new season. But one TikTok user said the quiet part out loud—and this analysis “may be a hard pill to swallow.” In a now-viral video, TikTok creator @simplyfoodbyty made his thoughts clear that Towanda was the fake one, the inauthentic person and Tamar has alway been her true self: “Towanda Braxton is actually the doll that y’all are trying to paint Tamar Braxton to be.”
He explains how their issues were created long before the cameras began documenting their lives, but we just so happen to see it play out on national television. Truthfully, he may be on to something.
Since the explosive reveal of the family scandal involving their niece Ashley, social media has been really chatty about the dynamic, and many fans agree it’s not Tamar—it’s the family’s “secret squirrel,” Towanda Braxton. Now, more viewers are starting to side-eye her every move.
In season one of “The Braxtons,” Tamar revealed during group therapy that Towanda only speaks to her when cameras are rolling. When Tamar called her out, saying, “Girl, you don’t answer the phone,” Towanda fired back, insisting she always responds. “Tay-Tay” wasn’t buying it, and now fans are resurfacing other moments proving Towanda isn’t innocent.
So, where is the energy coming from? According to social media, the tension started way back when Towanda filed for divorce from her previous husband while filming “Braxton Family Values.”
And you know their faithful fans had to weigh in:
“Tamar was on Towanda’s side and still got called the devil. That’s not cool.” one TikTok user commented.
“And now, a decade later, he hasn’t even talked to his kids for years,” another user chimed in. “Tamar was right about this one.” Chile!
And this isn’t the first time Towanda’s behavior had viewers rolling their eyes. Quiet as it’s kept, even their late sister Traci Braxton already told us who Towanda really is. In one episode, Traci didn’t bite her tongue, calling Towanda a “sneaky, son of a gun” over her now-husband, Sean, for stepping into the sisters’ drama. Next thing we know, Traci let both Sean and Towanda have a piece of her mind.
Fans were calling out a patterned behavior of Towanda playing the victim and “weaponizing her soft voice” to paint her sisters as the problem. One Threads user wrote, “I knew Towanda was messy when she ran back and told the sisters that Traci’s husband had a side baby. She looked way too happy when she was saying it, too.” Towanda, your slip is showing.
During the most recent episode of “The Braxtons, Towanda claimed her sisters weren’t supportive of her engagement celebration, hinting that they should cover the cost of her bachelorette party. That’s a bold expectation to have, especially since Towanda filed for bankruptcy back in 2019, clearing almost $550,000, including $35,ooo from her sister Tamar, but that’s a whole other story.
Beyond all of this, Tamar called bullsh*t immediately.
In Tamar’s confessional, she revealed that she had been asked to be the maid of honor, but producers later told her she was relieved of her duties and uninvited to the bachelorette party.
“This was a setup to show that I wasn’t there for her,” Tamar expressed.
When producers spoke with Towanda, her true feelings came out: “She wasn’t trying to come out for that reason, stop it. She would have f***ed everything up.”
Fans went off online: “In the words of the late great Traci Braxton, something in the milk ain’t clean…” a TikTok user posted.
“Her picking Tamar as maid of honor was definitely a set up,” one TikTok user wrote.
“Towanda had a sister there and she refused to acknowledge or thank her the only thing she was worried about was tearing down at Tamar,” another TikTok user posted.
Chile, this season is a hot mess! Be sure to catch all the episodes every Friday at 8 PM ET on WeTV.
