A video circulating online shows Fawn Weaver, co-founder of the whiskey company Uncle Nearest, reacting to a man who approached her at a recent book signing (most likely for her latest book, “Love & Whiskey: The Remarkable True Story of Jack Daniel”). When he did speak, he asked her if she remembered him, since they had been classmates in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. Her reaction and response have the internet calling her out for being rude and belittling him on the spot, even though he was very respectful when he spoke to her.

The interaction was caught on video and went viral: The unnamed man, who looked like he had patiently waited for his chance to speak to her, told Weaver that they went to school together. Instead of just telling him she doesn’t remember, she seemed to embarrass him by responding loudly, “So I’m supposed to remember you because…”

She then interrupts herself to turn her attention to the crowd gathered outside, then says to them, “Okay, can I tell y’all that this man just said, ‘Do you remember me?’ Make it make sense to me. He said we were in the same class in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.”

She turns to him and asks him, “Are you serious?”

When he acknowledges that he is, indeed, being serious, she then says to him, “I do not. I’m sorry. I don’t remember the sixth, the seventh, or the eighth grade.” She hugs him, then walks away from the scene.

Now, maybe the people who were with her and apparently the person filming the scene were amused by how she responded to him, but social media was not too happy with the CEO of the whiskey brand.

One commenter, Hustle Simmons, had a simple yet effective response: “Aunty tripping.”

Kainon Jasper had a more philosophical approach: “That’s a fair question to ask. That’s 3 years. It’s ok if she didn’t, but you shouldn’t embarrass the man. If he reacts impulsively the way she did to them, he’d be wrong, wouldn’t he? Grace is everything.”

And Joshua King said: “She gotta bad spirit on her. Not only did she call it out; she made a spectacle out of him. And started to preach to the congregation! Get her outta here. God ain’t in that behavior.”
