It’s almost time for the hottest party of the 2025! Our annual Root 100 gala is coming back for its 16th year. On December 3, we’ll be honoring everyone who made The Root 100 list at the iconic Gotham Hall in New York City! And we’re going to fill you in on why the space is one of the most iconic in NYC.

Oh the beauty! It’s no wonder the venue gets booked for weddings and celebrity-packed events throughout the year. In fact, the hall looks like it came straight out of a fairytale, making it the perfect place to host glamorous galas… like The Root 100.
Gotham Hall Architectural History

Constructed between 1922 and 1924, Gotham Hall was originally the Greenwich Savings Bank building. It was built in the style of Roman architecture to signify the bank’s growth from humble beginnings in Greenwich Village to its impressive Midtown relocation, according to the Gotham Hall site.
Built By Iconic Architectural Firm

Another reason why Gotham Hall is such an iconic and gorgeous structure is that it was built by the architectural firm York and Sawyer, the same architectural firm that built the stunning Chemists Club Hotel, also in Midtown. As well as the city’s first ever museum, the New York Historical Society, according to the architectural site, Arch In Form.
Beautiful Skylight

As you enter the venue, you’ll have your breath taken away by the 3,000 square foot stained-glass skylight that sits perfectly in the center of the venue’s ceiling. You’ll be dancing directly under a starry night sky all night long!
Our Time at The Apollo Theater

For the last three years, we held our annual Root 100 gala at the iconic Apollo Theater, where we were graced with incredible performances by Jon Batiste, who took the night away with his heavenly vocals.
Ashley Allison

Ashley Allison, The Root’s new owner since October, will be present at the glitzy event, honoring and celebrating all the honorees that made the list of impactful Black Americans this year.
Ashley Allison Has Been Giving Folks Their Flowers
In fact, not only will Allison be at the party, but she has also been handing honorees their flowers in person. Just last week, Allison surprised Tamron Hall with a bouquet for making it to The Root 100, and at the start of the month, she made a stop at “The Breakfast Club.”
Hosted Megan Thee Stallion’s Charity Gala
Gotham Hall has hosted multiple glamorous events. Earlier this year, it was the venue for Megan Thee Stallion’s Pete & Thomas gala, honoring her late parents and raising money for disadvantaged communities.
Root 100 Honoree At Gotham Hall

Root 100 honoree Quinta Brunson was spotted at the iconic building in 2023 during New York Fashion Week, and the building has hosted numerous fashion shows.
Premier Spot For NYFW
This year, Gotham Hall was the premier venue for New York Fashion Week. Runways, NYFW after parties, and VIP events took place under the ornate skylight of the event space, according to the fashion week guide, The Bureau Fashion Week. In this video, models showcase designs by the Black Louisiana fashion designer, Romey Roe.

During NYFW 2024, brand L’AGENCE had a very creative showcase at the Gothic Hall by having models stand on podiums like living art pieces.
Backdrop For Film and TV
Another fun fact about this year’s venue is that FOX’s hit series “Gotham” used the real-life Gotham Hall to film some of the scenes in the mayor’s office during the premiere episode of season four, according to the Gotham Hall site.
Red Carpet At Gotham Hall

Root 100 honorees like actress Taraji P. Henson and activist Tamika Mallory have already had a time strutting their way down red carpets at Gotham Hall.
Key To The City At Gotham Hall
This year, New York’s very own women’s football club, Gotham FC, was honored with the key to the city at Gotham Hall after becoming two-time champions in the National Women’s Soccer League, according to NBC.
We Celebrate Our Honorees

At The Root 100, we always honor our guests and show them a whole lotta love for all they have done to uplift the Black community throughout the year, and that’s exactly what we’ll be doing at Gotham Hall.
