Cardi B is gearing up to release her sophomore album “AM I THE DRAMA?” soon. But before she does that, she’ll have to make it through her new civil trial first and it’s already proving to be a somewhat cringey affair.

For little bit of background, this case hinges on an incident that allegedly happened in February 2018. As we told you at the time, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper was hit with the suit after she was accused of assault by a female security guard, Emani Ellis. Specifically, Ellis–who was working as a security guard at a medical building–approached Cardi allegedly trying to record video or take photos of her. Cardi reportedly asked her to stop because she didn’t want to be recorded in the doctor’s office and that’s when the alleged altercation took place.
Ellis claimed that she was struck in her face, spit on, and called a racial slur by the popular rapper.
At the time, Cardi took to social media to defend herself, writing in a post to X/Twitter: “Why don’t you guys post the part where the doctor office said that that’s not what happen ? and if I assaulted why she didn’t press charges ? Why would I put my hands on some1 twice my size by myself while I’m experiencing sharp pain 4 months pregnant ?”
Now, the two are facing off in a Los Angeles courtroom with both Ellis and Cardi taking the stand on Tuesday–but the things that have transpired are already looking weird. For starters, Ellis’ lawyer questioned whether or not the “Up” rapper was wearing her real hair, citing the fact that she showed up on the first day of her testimony wearing a dark short cut and on day two, a blonde bob.
“Which one is your real hair? Or are they both real?….OK, sorry. I didn’t know that. It’s a good wig today then,” the lawyer said.
The lawyer would then go on to question the “Enough” rapper about the length of her fingernails and if she could change them out at any given moment. Now while that seems to be a puzzling line of questioning, it should be noted here that part of Ellis’ allegations include the claim that Cardi used one of her long fingernails to “slice” her left cheek while she lobbed racial slurs at her and spat at her.
In another moment, when Ellis took the stand, lawyers for Cardi played video of her initial reporting of the alleged incident where she claimed the rapper “struck her on her nose and on her cheek” and that she took pictures of her injuries. However, when on the witness stand, she couldn’t detail what injuries she suffered and confirmed that she couldn’t find the pictures she took back then.
Additionally, once Cardi took the stand again on Wednesday, things got a little tense when Ellis’ lawyers asked her to recount the verbiage she allegedly said to her on that day. After Cardi spoke, Ellis’ lawyer raised his voice and tone and told her to say it to his client’s face in the same manner that she did then.
“Why don’t we just take the temperature down a little bit? If you have actual questions to ask her, please do so. It’s not time to argue with her” the judge warned.
The judge later clarified: “There’s a difference between volume and tone. The volume is fine, the tone is a little bit argumentative.”
There’s been no word for how long this trial is set to last but judging by what we’ve seen thus far, things need to get rapped up sooner rather than later.
