It’s seems the tables are turning in Chicago after the city became a hotspot for President Donald Trump’s ongoing ICE raids. After months of threats to send in the National Guard and after residents have been threatened, falsely arrested and captured by ICE, one Chicago judge is laying down the law…and the president likely won’t be too happy about it.

We’ve been keeping you in the loop with all the chaos happening since Trump put a target on Chicago’s back. He deemed the city led by Mayor Brandon Johnson a “war zone” and even called for Johnson and the governor to be arrested. Several U.S. citizens have shared their horrific encounters with ICE since they ramped up presence in the city.
One judge is finally listening.
U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Cummings made national headlines after he ruled that ICE agents will face serious consequences if they go after people without a warrant, Newsweek reported. The news was handed down on Oct. 7, but it marked rare pushback from any federal judge so far.
The decision reinforced protections regarding due process for residents no matter their immigration status. Under Judge Cummings’ decree, no one is above the law — not even agents abiding by the president’s orders.
But although agents have been warned about their alleged nefarious activity, that’s not stopping them from flooding Chicago. This week, immigration enforcement descended on Little Village, one of Chicago’s heavily Mexican communities. At least four U.S. citizens were arrested during the raid on Oct. 22, USA Today reported.
“A reign of terror was brought upon our neighborhood,” Ald. Mike Rodriguez told the outlet. “They took at least eight people, of those eight, four were U.S. citizens and two were members of my staff.”
Meanwhile, Trump and ICE are being slowed down in the courts. A federal appeals court ruled in favor of Trump’s National Guard deployment in Portland, CNN reported. But he’s still facing in-court battles when it comes to cities like Chicago and Los Angeles.
“People are afraid. I mean, that’s you know, no question there,” Mayor Johnson told Fox 32 News. “What the Trump administration is doing is absolutely, first of all, unconstitutional. Terrorizing working people, you know, is just absolutely abhorrent.”
ICE agents have been accused of “kidnapping” people. These agents under Trump are trained less, paid more and are usually masked– which is unprecedented, NPR reported. With the president’s stamp of approval, it seems the officers are free to do whatever you please, until judges like Cummings put a stop to it.
