Stenberg, who has been vocal when it comes to cultural appropriation, is now stepping into the comic book arena and is giving black women the attention they deserve.

Stenberg, along with Stranger Comics and black comic book illustrator Ashley A. Woods, created the comic Niobe: She Is Life, "which chronicles the life and experiences of a young black warrior woman named Niobe Ayutami."

In an interview with the Huffington Post, Stenberg says that Niobe "is on a path to a destiny that will test her faith and her will, something we can all relate to. But there's never been a character quite like her—one who shatters the traditional ideal of what a hero is."

Sebastian A. Jones, CEO of Stranger Comics, said, "There are few companies willing to let us tell our tales." And Woods noted that Niobe is not only courageous but also "beautiful, flawed, brave and has the tenacity to follow through with her convictions."

The comic will be released Nov. 4.
