When enrolling at White Bear Lake High School, located about 17 miles north of Minneapolis, three documents are required: a birth certificate, proof of address, and your immunization records. That’s what Kelvin Luebke, a Black man, allegedly provided to the school. He was successfully enrolled as a senior, even joined the school’s football team and went by “KJ” to fellow students.

That is until the school’s principal, Russ Reetz, said in an email to parents: “We received reports that an individual enrolled at [White Bear Lake Area High School] was over the age of 21 and promptly started an investigation.”

Luebke is accused of providing “fraudulent documentation and a false identity to enroll,” according to reports. Turns out, Luebke is old enough to legally drink alcohol. He was 22. It’s unclear what age Luebke allegedly put on the alleged false documents.

“Please rest assured that the safety and well-being of all students is our top priority,” Principal Reetz added in an email. “I am grateful to the staff members, families and students who saw something and decided to report it. These reports led to our investigation.”

Early Sunday (Sept. 28), the “teen” was arrested and charged with theft and lewdness. He’s currently being held at the Anoka County Jail and has since been banned from the high school’s property, but one parent says that’s just not good enough.

April Jorgenson told CBS News how she broke down in tears after finding out a 22-year-old had allegedly been around her children. “I’m scared that they’re not keeping our kids safe,” she said. “I don’t understand how this man got into my kid’s school.” She added: “You need to have a record and you need to have a physical to do these activities. We just can’t figure out how this happened.”

One unidentified student agreed, telling the outlet they believed the “district failed us” and how, “The people who were overseeing this issue and let this slip past, they need to face the consequences.”
