As we told you on Monday, Carroll, affectionately known as “The Knockout King of Comedy,” was shot in Mississippi on Aug. 20. Despite medical personnel performing life-saving measures at a local area hospital, Carroll died from his injuries. He was 52. Once the news of his death began to circulate, Mo’Nique hopped on social media to pay her respects to the man she referred to as her “brother in comedy.”
“The last time me and my brother Reggie, girl, was together […] it was an amazing time, being on tour together, being on that road together, what a time,” she wrote in part at the time, later stressing the importance of treating people right when you see them.
Not too long after Carroll’s death, the police announced that one man was already in custody and had been charged with murder, though his name had not yet been released.
Now, per PEOPLE, the man in questioned has been revealed to be Tranell Williams, as confirmed by multiple news outlets. His last known address just so happened to be at the same location that Carroll’s death took place. By now, you’re probably wonder just how Katt Williams ties into all of this, right?
Well, as confirmed by FOX 13, WREG and WJTV, Tranell was an employee of the “First Sunday” star. In fact, he reportedly worked as part of the security team with his most recent gig being Katt’s “Heaven on Earth Comedy Tour.”
At this point, neither Tranell nor Katt’s respective teams have come out to give any official statements on the matter. But, this connection is sure to make things a bit awkward between Katt and Mo’Nique seeing as how the two have had a pretty good working relationship up to now: They toured the country together as recently as 2024.
