As the old folks say, James Harden has more money than God after signing the largest contract extension in NBA history earlier this summer. The extension will make Harden a Houston Rocket until the 2022-2023 season, and that likely makes Houston strippers happy, considering that Harden is reportedly one of their best customers.
According to Joe Budden’s podcast mate Mal of The Joe Budden Podcast, Harden’s jersey is hanging in the rafters of one of the more popular strip clubs in Houston.
“They was doing that because they said James just be going in there spending like ... you know what I mean,” Mal said about 21 minutes in on the most recent episode, Sports Illustrated reports. “So they gave him his own jersey hanging from the strip club.”
Harden spent his first three years in Oklahoma City. I’ve never been to the strip clubs in OKC, but I have been to strip clubs in Houston, and I’m willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that Houston strippers have OKC strippers beat hands down. In fact, Houston strippers might be the best strippers in the world—just ask Drake, who took it upon himself to immortalize three of Houston’s best strippers. The Caribbean lounge-music rapper posted this image to his Instagram showing the retired jerseys for Lira Galore, Miracle Watts and Maliah Michel, three of the best to ever do it.
Harden has spent his last five seasons in Houston, and a considerable amount of time inside Houston’s strip clubs stimulating the local economy. Since landing with the Rockets, Harden has averaged 27.4 points and 7.6 assists, and SI notes that “he is also third in win shares, trailing only Hall of Famers Hakeem Olajuwon and Calvin Murphy.”
Thank God for the strippers.
