How Brooklyn Rapper Troy Ave Saved His Friend From a Shootout in Viral Video

Less than a year after being released from Rikers Island, Troy Ave finds himself back in hot water.

In another episode of “What mess has Troy Ave gotten into today,” the Brooklyn rapper is proving once again how he’s actually living the gangster life he raps about. Like a scene out of a movie, Ave came to the rescue of one of his friends, and the incident was all caught in camera.

Ave — real name Roland Collins — got into a full blown shootout in the San Diego area. But interestingly enough, he wasn’t even the main target. Collins and his friend, who goes by Chef Geoff Cole, were pulling up to Cole’s house after a night on the town. But instead of a warm welcome home, the pair was met by an armed robber.

Home security footage shows Collins and Cole driving in a black Bentley. As the two get out of the vehicle and start to walk inside the house, Collins spots a man dressed in all black approach his friend. That’s when the robber grabs what looks like a bag full of money from Cole, prompting Collins to reach for his own handgun.

The robber quickly takes off, but he didn’t getting far as Collins started shooting in his direction, protecting his friend. The robber tumbles to the ground, but it’s unclear if either of the two shots from Collins struck the perp. That’s where the video ends, and obviously fans had questions…

“I came home after Celebrating the success of a sold out Chef Fest with Love & support from all over the West Coast! And a hater from the SAME CITY tried 2 take it all away,” Cole wrote in an Instagram post, accompanied by the security footage. “This the 2nd time but it WON’T be a 3rd! s/o 2 my BROTHER Ave for Holding it Down in a situation where most woulda RAN or FOLDED.”

Folks on Instagram flooded Cole’s comments, with some giving props to Collins for being there for his friend. Others, however, expressed skepticism about the entire interaction. “Y’all believe anything on here,” @moso_504 responded. “Great promotion for that song tho.”

“Maaannn u was reaching for the strap before buddy came round the corner,” @zachturner26 said. “Why u gotta fake that sh*t for clout? Sh*t corny af.”

This wouldn’t be the first time Collins found himself in a high intensity situation. Matter of fact, it hasn’t even been a full year since the Brooklyn rapper was released from prison following the shooting death of his own bodyguard, Billboard reported.

Since walking out of Rikers Island prison, Collins has been getting back to releasing music. He just dropped a music video to his most recent song, titled “Appetite for Hustlin,” on July 14.
