If you haven’t been paying attention, the prolific producer was on trial this past week stemming from a civil suit filed against him by a former friend. As we previously told you, Vanessa LeMaistre alleged that in 2016, Metro (legally Leland T. Wayne) sexually assaulted and raped her in Los Angeles hotel after she blacked out and that it led to a pregnancy that she ultimately got aborted.
LeMaistre also said in her initial complaint that she was “in and out of consciousness for an unknown amount of time but awoke again at some point to Wayne performing oral sex on her,” per PEOPLE. She was seeking damages and a jury trial.
But, after only a two-day trial and a one-hour deliberation by the jury on Thursday (Sept. 25), they concluded that Metro was “not liable” in this case and that LeMaistre failed to prove that the producer had harmed her.
Her lawyers spoke to press in the aftermath, saying: “Though the legal system is often stacked against survivors, our client showed unwavering fortitude throughout this trial. “We are disappointed in the outcome but are proud to represent Ms. LeMaistre and believe that the verdict will ultimately be overturned on appeal.”
Metro himself would later hop on social media to release his statement, beginning in part by saying how he “never in a million years” would’ve guessed he’d be accused of something so horrendous because of how kind he treats people.
He continued: “Today I took a victory in court but in reality there is a long list of losses I stacked up in this year long process of clearing my name and reputation. The very large amount of money and time wasted, coupled with the incalculable amount of money and opportunities that did not make it to me or my team during this time.”
He went on to describe how traumatic this trial had been for his family and how much it threatened the very active and involved relationship with his younger brother and sister. He then targeted the “janky lawyers” who took on the case on behalf of “LeMaistre and called them out for their involvement.
He later told Rolling Stone: “This has been a very difficult time for me and my family. From the beginning I have said these allegations were false and that I would not be a part of a shakedown. She attacked who I am as a person and how I was raised, and I could not let her get away with that. I would never do what she accused me of to anyone. I am deeply thankful to my legal team, my loved ones, the jury, and everyone who stood by me. I’m relieved that the truth came out in court.”
