Hip-Hop Figures Who Have Backed Donald Trump in Recent Years

Artists such as Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and Kodak Black have been staunch supporters of the presidential candidate.

For years, there’s been more than a few in the Hip-hop community to praise Trump. The Root even went back decades and examined how Trump went from hip-hop icon to supervillain in the culture. In recent years since Trump jumped into the political landscape, there’s been a new crop of rappers who proudly back the former president.

What is the draw? Is it his policies? His personality? His wealth? Or his power to help them in a pinch. Whatever the reason, some of the biggest and most beloved artists in the genre still share their intention to vote for him in one of the most important elections in recent memory. Here are some of the most recent hip-hop stars to publicly support Trump.

Kanye West was one of the first (and the most vocal) political supporters of Trump in recent hip-hop history. He could often be seen wearing “Make America Great Again” hats in public and even met with the former president in the White House. He became less supportive of Trump once Ye felt he was fit for the White House himself. But there was that one time he did ask Trump to be his VP.

Lil Wayne

Leading up to the 2020 Presidential Election, Trump pardoned a slew of individuals to receive more votes. One of those people was Lil Wayne, who almost immediately approved Trump’s “Platinum Plan” for Black Voters.

The NWA legend was under fire leading up to the 2020 Presidential Election for sharing that he spoke with the former president about his “Platinum Plan” for Black citizens. At the time, Cube explained, “Enemies meet. We’ve just got to talk. That’s the only way we’re going to work this out.”

Along with Wayne, Trump also pardoned Kodak Black ahead of the 2020 Presidential Election. When Trump was arrested on multiple counts of falsifying business records, the Florida rapper went to bat for the billionaire, saying on IG live, “Trump is a real n***a. He’s a soldier. It ain’t how he snapped for a n***a. It ain’t even about that. Y’all get off Trump, man.”

Chief Keef

Chief Keef went the same route as Kodak Black and also defended Trump after he was arrested in August 2023, saying that he should get a “pass” if he were to spend significant time in prison.

Although she recently endorsed Kamala Harris, Sexyy Red was on the side of “MAGA” for a long time. During an appearance on a podcast, she said, “I like Trump. They support him in the hood. At first, I don’t think people was f**king with him. They thought he was racist, saying little s**t against women. But once he started getting Black people out of jail and giving people that free money. Awe, baby, we love Trump. We need him back in office.”

Lil Pump

Lil Pump has likely been the most loyal supporter out of all the rappers on this list. He’s continued to voice support for him on social media and is a regular at his rallies.

Benny the Butcher has been off and on when it comes to his support of Trump. In August 2023, he randomly posted on social media what his plans are for the 2024 presidential election, writing, “I’m votin Trump 2024.”

But just this year, on the song, “Still Praying,” he said, “I declined that meeting with Donald/I don’t even vote.”

The beloved Atlanta rapper has been extremely vocal about his support of Trump leading up to the 2024 Presidential Election. Just last week, he tweeted, “Trump for president!!!!!! Let’s Go!!!!!”

In a longer post on Instagram, he doubled down on his support, saying, “If you don’t like me or don’t f with me based off my view then the love was never real… and if you engage in public disrespect I will never go back n forth with you ever… Im just moving forward….”

Azealia Banks

In a November 2023 interview with The Standard, Azealia Banks claimed that she’s voting for Trump because “He’s just f***ing funny. e’s been through how many bankruptcies? How many wives? How many television shows? Seriously, nothing can take him down.”

While he hasn’t been as vocal about his support of Trump, he did call the former president a “gangsta” for pardoning Kodak Black.

Like Lil Pump, The New York MC is has been pro-Trump since day one. Recently, he collaborated with fellow MAGA supporter Kodak Black on the track, “ONBOA47RD,” which samples the former president’s 2017 inaugural address.

This Bronx rapper introduced Trump during a rally in New York in May 2024. He said to the crowd, “They always gon’ whisper your accomplishments and shout your failures. Trump gon’ shout the wins for all of us.”

Detroit rapper 42 Dugg hasn’t gone in depth about his support of Trump, but he did release a song where he rapped, “Me and Trump the same n***a, put on my red hat, red Bach (Maybach) matching the soda, say it’s our turn we need em voting, immunity, free cheese, we need em both, pardons, big Meech, we need him home, starting 2024. I don’t agree with the police sh*t but yeah right, whole hood could be back turnt.”
