It’s the first of October which means Halloween season is officially here! That also means it’s time for us all to dim the lights, grab a blanket, and scare ourselves silly with some spooky movies and TV show. But because you already know how we do it around this side of the internet, we’re specifically looking for scary but with a extra, heaping side of Blackness.

Thankfully, Hulu has us covered with a variety of Black-led TV shows and movies that are sure to give you all the eerie feels and satisfy your creepy cravings. Whether it’s a series like Niecy Nash’s “Grotesquerie” or the new psychologically haunting film like Corey Hawkins’ “The Man in My Basement,” these titles prove that Black people in horror is more than a trend–it’s a whole damn movement.
Now you just might want to sleep with the lights on after watching a few of these but, these titles are sure to leave with something to think about long after the credits roll. “Grotesquerie”

While there are def elements of fright, these episodes should bring you some momentary levity. Might we suggest specifically, season four, episode four and season two, episode six.

“Kindred”
An adaptation of Octavia Butler’s book of the same name, this series centers on Dana James, a young Black woman and aspiring writer who has uprooted her life of familial obligation and relocated to Los Angeles, ready to claim a future that, for once, feels all her own. She emerges at a nineteenth-century plantation, a place remarkably and intimately linked with Dana and her family.
