Rapper Tory Lanez is breaking his silence from behind bars, giving his first ever broadcast interview since being convicted of the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion in Los Angeles. And just like you’d expect, he’s still advocating for his own innocence.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with NBC News published on Thursday (Dec. 18), Lanez maintained that he’d “never been violent towards a woman” and that he “would never hit a woman, let alone shoot a woman.” He also pushed back on the misconception that he’s a “monstrous” individual and that Black women aren’t safe around him.
“I feel like I was catapulted into this poster child for the un-protection of Black women and it’s just so unlike me. And I’ve never really had a chance to express that, but you can look at my criminal record. I don’t have one, I never had one. And I feel like that connotation that I would do anything of this monstrous proportion is completely incorrect. It’s wrong,” Lanez said.
Lanez also explained that his legal team plans to file multiple appeals again with the California Supreme Court soon, alleging that some evidence wasn’t provided to him before the trial hence violating his due process. They’re also allegedly going to present hundreds of pages of “new evidence” that would poke holes at the original story of what happened. They’re ultimately seeking a pardon or a commuted sentence.
What’s more is that Lanez described what life’s been like for him while describing the experience as something that’s caused him to go through mental “trauma.”
“I never imagined myself dealing with the things I’ve had to deal with. I’ve been stabbed 17 times, almost lost my life,” Lanez said.
As far as his message to Megan, the “Say It” rapper said that he would want to speak to her in person and said that he’s “genuinely past” any feelings of hatred towards her. He also expressed that he’s at a point in his life for peace and taking accountability for the things he’s done.
Reps for Megan have yet to respond to Lanez’s interview, but plenty of people online are talking.
“Tory Lanez had an NBC platform to tell the world how Kelsey framed him for shooting Megan. Instead, he gave us recycled “evidence” and him cosplaying as a non-violent man. Guess that lie isn’t ready for prime time,” wrote one user on X/Twitter.
“I have heard of people who lie until they start to believe their own lie. Smh,” another user wrote on Instagram.
Added another person: “Give it up. Do your 10 years in peace we’re tired. The judges have denied your appeals several times.”
