France’s Maé Bérénice Méité tapped into Beyoncé’s discography Saturday night as part of her routine for the figure skating team event. The Pyeongchang Winter Olympics marks the first time figure skaters can set their routines to music with lyrics, and Méité opted to christen the occasion with Queen Bey, skating to a mashup of two Beyoncé songs: “Halo” and “Run the World (Girls).”
Méité’s routine, for which she wore a black-and-gold sequined jumpsuit, made her an instant crowd and viewer favorite—despite a few technical slipups. Fellow Olympian and American bronze medalist Ashley Wagner was among Méité’s fans, tweeting that the figure skater “is such [fire] to watch every time.”
Upon completing her routine, Méité told Cosmopolitan that she chose to skate to Beyoncé because “[her music] is crazy, wild and fun.”
“You can just dance to it, and that’s how I am,” Méité added. “I wanted to do something that was very me, something fun, something I would enjoy!”
