Former White House Photographer Calls Out Trump For Hiding Obamas Portrait

“Petty or racist?” Former White House photographer wonders what’s Trump’s reasoning for hiding Obama’s portrait in an off-limits stairwell.

President Trump has been doing a lot of redecorating in the White House lately, from tiling over the rose gardens to now rearranging the portraits of former presidents, and now the former White House Photographer, Pete Souza, has just called out Trump for changing a tradition in the presidential home.

On Instagram, Souza wrote a lengthy post detailing the traditional placement of the portraits. The most recent portraits are supposed to be hung in the Grand Foyer, then the Cross Hall, then the walls leading up to the Grand Staircase, so that visitors can see them during public tours. However, President Trump has placed President Obama’s portrait at the top of the Grand Staircase, where it’ll be out of public view.

“Petty or racist?” Souza asked a the start of his Instagram post before he called out Trump for breaking traditional protocol:

“According to CNN, the current occupant of the Oval Office has moved the portrait of President Obama from the Grand Foyer (where it should be) to that hidden area at the top of the Grand Staircase. Thus, it cannot be seen publicly on White House tours and cannot be seen by White House staff. Why was this done? Was it because President Obama lives rent-free in the current occupant’s head? I’d say that’s pretty petty. Or could there be another reason?”

Under the comments of Souza’s post, many users criticized Trump for his rearranging:

“Trump is seething with jealousy over President Obama. Jealous of his brilliance, charm, popularity, and killer looks,” wrote one user.

“The sight of President Obama’s beautiful face, perfect smile and kind eyes must’ve driven him more crazy than he already is. Also, knowing that most of 75% of this country still sane would give anything to have him [Obama] back really angered him. Aside from throwing a tantrum and being petty, it was 100% racist,” added another user.

“Obama is class. Trump is crass,” wrote another.

However, President Obama is not the only portrait that has been hidden. President Trump has also replaced the portraits of President George W. Bush and his father, George H.W. Bush, according to CNN. It has also been confirmed by multiple sources that President Trump is directly involved in the redecorating of the White House, per CNN.

The replacement of the portrait may come from the tension that bubbles between President Trump and Former President Obama, as Trump recently accused Obama of a coup during his first presidential term. A claim that President Obama has called an “attempt at distraction,” according to The Guardian.
