“Anthony Mason Way” was added to the name of the corner of 147th Street at Rockaway Boulevard to celebrate the hometown hero who died last year from congestive heart failure.

Antoine Mason, Anthony Mason’s son, was on hand for the event and spoke about his father’s legacy.

“This is a beautiful event,” Antoine Mason said. “The tough thing is, it’s not about anybody else here. It’s about the guy who’s up there.

“He used to shoot, shoot, shoot all the time at night. And he said when the daylight came it was easier. He kept working in his craft, kept working in his craft, and eventually he made it,” Antoine Mason said.

Others in attendance at the event included former teammate John Starks, as well as New York City Councilman Ruben Wills (D-Queens).
