Folks Think Brandy’s Lying About Why She Abandoned Her Chicago Show With Monica…and There are Receipts!

Brandy and Monica finally kicked off their long-awaited ‘The Boy Is Mine Tour.’ But things didn’t exactly go as planned during one stop. Let’s talk about it!!

Brandy Norwood normally doesn’t make headlines like that. But that all changed this weekend thanks to a truly puzzling concert experience that left fans baffled. And unfortunately for the popular singer, she’s getting called out for it. Let’s get into it!

It all started on Saturday (Oct. 18) in Chicago where Brandy was joined by fellow singer Monica for night three of their highly-anticipated, long-awaited “The Boy Is Mine Tour.” As we told you in June, this tour was over 25 years in the making and sparked countless positive reactions when it was first announced due to the ladies past rocky friendship.

But it appeared that time healed all wounds, which ultimately led to Brandy and Monica finally sharing a stage together and performing for their fans.

However, while the first two tour stops went fine, things went left in Chicago: As shown through multiple videos at a certain point in the night, Brandy seemed to be experiencing some technical issues and abruptly walked off the stage and over to the sound booth.

“Give me one second, y’all I’m trying to get my–” Brandy said before her mic cut out.

Wow it allegedly looks like the sound was also the reason Brandy walked off lastnight in Chicago. #brandy #theboyismine #monica #chicago

In another video, the “Have You Ever” singer could be seen over on the side of the stage standing with the sound engineers for a while before she eventually went backstage. Meanwhile, the dancers and Monica were still onstage and poised for the next song albeit presumably confused.

Not too long after that, Monica appeared again by herself and spoke out in a lowkey and graceful defense of Brandy. During her chat, she explained that “sometimes we don’t know what’s going on” and that she was grateful to be performing alongside the “I Wanna Be Down” singer.

But unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to keep fans from expressing their disappointment and confusion online.

“I went to the Chicago The Boy Is Mine Tour stop. Brandy walked off stage & said sum like “give me a sec yall” We never saw her again. Monica came out, monologued, sat, sung and left. No bye, no nothing. Screen went off. Lights came on and they told us to get out,” one user said on X/Twitter.

“wtf happened at the Brandy and Monica show tonight???” questioned another user.

Over on TikTok, one other user explained: “It’s crazy because Monica’s mic wasn’t working properly on opening night in Cincinnati, yet she still stayed on stage and finished her set.”

Now, the “Baby” singer is finally speaking out and explaining what really happened. In a statement put out on her official Instagram on Sunday, Brandy apologized for the show’s weird ending and explained that things went down that way because she “experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint” caused by weeks of “nonstop rehearsals.”

“Everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance. I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling okay,” she said. “With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production. I really appreciate everyone’s best efforts.”

Brandy wrote that she was grateful to Monica for her professionalism and shared she was eventually taken to a local doctor to address her health issues. She concluded by thanking her fans and expressed that she’d be back onstage performing in the next city after taking her proper precautions.

However, much like the odd concert experience, some fans weren’t feeling Brandy’s apology unfortunately.

“So….you were about to faint, but left the stage and immediately went to the sound person instead of finding the nearest chair? Alright lol,” wrote one user on X/Twitter.

“But we saw you go right to the sound board…” another pointed out.

“She lying like crazy. That backing track was off and started going fast and she had to gtf off that stage. lol,” one other user added.

One user on Threads posted screenshots of text conversation between her and her god-daughter who allegedly worked the concert that night. In the messages, the god-daughter explained that Brandy’s music was in fact “messed up” and because there was no stage manager–she was so frustrated that she “packed up all her sh*t, ended the show early” and didn’t sing “The Boy Is Mine” with Monica.

Others defended the “Sitting Up In My Room” singer with one user writing: “We love you, Brandy. Your REAL fans completely understand. Shit happens. You’re health & well-being is more important than anything.”

“Not too much on Brandy y’all better keep shut n mute,” said another.
