The latest guilty verdict handed down by an Orange County, Fla. jury was in connection to a shocking confession of a Black man in 2021. However, his statement to police wasnβt in the midst of an interrogation β it was during his job interview to be a cop.
On June 16, 2021, Stephen Bodley was at the Apopka Police Department interviewing for a position to be a sworn police officer, according to the Office of the Ninth Judicial Circuit Stateβs Attorney. Things became tense when he was given a voice stress examination. The voice stress analysis examiner asked Bodley to expand on an answer he put on his pre-test questionnaire.

In it, Bodley described sexually assaulting a younger child when he was 12 to 13 years old and said that the incidents occurred 10 years ago in his home, according to an arrest warrant affidavit reviewed by PEOPLE, which also claims he admitted it again when he was questioned about it further.
βI canβt remember but um, but what do you call it, yes, um, I used to um, play these little sexual games, like oral with my little [redacted] and I known she, she didnβt know fully what was going on, and I used to watch porn a lot, so I had like a little addiction when I was younger,β Bodley told a detective at the time, per the affidavit.
βHe explained that he was going to his room naked and she was laughing and then she put her mouth on it (referring to his penis),β the affidavit states. βDefendant Bodley stated that it gave him an idea to βplay this gameβ and he would play the game with her βall the time.ββ
The report says the police found he continued this behavior well into his teenage years. Following the discovery, detectives met with the victim and their mother, who said sheβd known Bodley since he was a child and never thought heβd do such a thing, per DailyMail. After their interviews, Bodley was called back to the department, but not for a job offer β to be arrested.
May 8, a jury convicted Bodley of sexual battery on a child less than 12 by a person less than 18. Heβs due back in court in June for sentencing.
