Close to 100 people gathered in Times Square yesterday for a Soul Train flash mob, according to USA Today.

The crowd, organized through the Internet, re-created the show’s classic “Soul Train line” as people took turns dancing for the cameras on the scene. The tribute to the show’s late creator, Don Cornelius, also had dancers dressed in classic Soul Train garb like Afro wigs and bell bottoms.
“Don Cornelius brought soul to the whole world,” 37-year-old Ramona Hamm told USA Today.
The flash mob lasted close to an hour, until New York City police told the crowd to disperse.
Cornelius died on Feb. 1 from a self-inflicted gun shot wound. Reports are that he had been suffering from health problems, had a difficult divorce and pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor spousal battery charge in 2009.
