Jay-Z is usually reserved when talking to press, but in an interview with Gayle King for βCBS Morningsβ the emcee opened up about being a dad. In addition to talking about Blue Ivy performing alongside her mom Beyonce on the Renaissance Tour, Jay also discussed the origin of her name.

Surprisingly, Blue Ivy wasnβt her original name at first. βIt was supposed to be Brooklyn,β Jay explained to King. However, the rapperβs hometown took a backseat once the coupleβs prenatal checks started.
βWe was calling her Blueberry. Like, βLook at the little blueberry.β You know, it was like a nickname,β he continued. βIt just was natural. We just took the βberryβ off of it and called her Blue.β
Jay-Z also gushed over his wifeβs popular tour that just wrapped up. βFor me, this was her best tour. This one to me felt like the most complete.β
He also shared with King that he got βgoosebumpsβ watching Blue Ivy onstage with Bey.
βBlueβs been born into this world that she didnβt ask. Sheβs been born into a life she didnβt ask for. So since she was born sheβs been in, like, scrutiny and public eye, and everyone having an opinion,β Jay stated.
βShe wanted to do it. She wanted to do it the first night, and we was like, βOK, if this is something you wanna do, you canβt just go out there. You gotta go work with the dancers, and go work. And she worked every day and watched her work hard.β
Blue performed to the song βMy Power,β to which the emcee stated: βYou canβt write a better script.β
For βCBS Mornings,β King and Carter spoke and also toured the βBook of HOVβ exhibit at Brooklyn Public Library. He also revealed that Blue has gone back and forth about him being a cool dad.
