Black Celebs Changing Men’s Fashion

A sartorial examination of these excellent looks from Colman Domingo, Steve Harvey and Pharrell Williams to inspire your Easter Sunday fit.

Easter Sunday is a special day in the Black community. Not only because it’s our day to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, but also because it’s our time to stunt on our family, friends, and those nosy members of our local congregation.

For men, it is especially a time to step outside of the box and deviate from our normal formal wear to something a little more flashy. And with that in mind, let’s take a look at some of our favorite Black celebs, athletes and influencers who are changing the game, and the look, of what it means to be suited and booted as a brother.

Steve Harvey is the absolute KING when it comes to playing with pastels and punchy colors. He famously advised that there are five suits that every man needs, and in turn you can make a several of variations with just those suits. He displays that every time he hosts the überpopular game show “Family Feud.”

Cool Like Colman Domingo

As one of the best dressed Black men of the past year, there’s no question that “Rustin” and “The Color Purple” star Colman Domingo had to be on this list. There are plenty of looks in his sartorial portfolio to choose from, but this all green look right here from the Pre-Oscar Dinner gives off Easter vibes.

Russell Westbrook’s Wardrobe Risks

This is honestly a tamed down look for Westbrook, who is known for taking lots of risks when it comes to what clothes he puts on his back. But this tux he wore at the 2018 CFDAFashion Awards would be perfect for an Easter Sunday gathering—or a spring wedding.

Bold Like Michael B. Jordan

Sure, it’s not a traditional suit, but isn’t that what Easter Sunday is all about? Michael B. Jordan makes a bold statement with this look, and you can too. Just be sure to get the shoes right. The shoes and shirt pull it all together.

Dwyane Wade’s Pink and Punchy Suit

It’s 2024, by now fellas should not be afraid to wear pink—or anything else that complements their skin tone and personality. Dwyane Wade famously said that it was his father who inspired him to always look his best, and he was surely feeling inspired in this all salmon look at the 2023 Fall Women’s Versace Fashion show.

Stefon Diggs

Not the most colorful outfit on this list, but sometimes less is more. The suit itself reminds us of the old box TV days and dreaded white noise that sets in when you’re getting a bad reception. But there is nothing bad about this look on Stefon Diggs at the 2023 Met Gala.

Odell Beckham’s Dapper White on White

“All white when I’m feeling godly,” rapped Dej Loaf. If you want to stand out any event, including an Easter Sunday gathering, an all-white suit is never not a good choice. Odell Beckham Jr.’s take was as dapper as you can be at the 2020 Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

Hats Off to Von Miller

We have to be honest, sneakers with suits is something I hate to see. But everything else about this look on Von Miller is solid. Even the hat is nice touch.

Mahershala Ali’s Rakish Flair

Mahershala Ali has one of the more unique styles in Hollywood. Distinct patterns, beanie hats, rolled up pants, this particular outfit for the premiere of “Leave the World” is especially uncommon. Yet it somehow just fits Ali, and that’s what you call strong personal style.

Tyler, the Creator and Blerdcore

Tyler, the Creator knows a thing or two about creating a look, and he always leans heavily into a mix of blerd and preppy core. It’s formal yet casual at the same time, and the fur hat will have the ladies in your congregation jealous.

Fit for a King ... Kingsley Ben-Adir

Don’t listen to the people who say you can’t wear an all red outfit, they can still be great if they are worn the right way. Kingsley Ben-Adir’s look at the “Bob Marley: One Love” premiere is particularly nice. We especially love the decision to not wear a shirt under the three-piece suit, it’s a risk that paid off.

LeBron James’ Cream Dream

People don’t give LeBron James enough credit. The brother can dress. This all-cream look he wore to the premiere of “Shooting Stars” is parciculary nice because it matched one of the colors of his high school basketball team.

Jay-Z in a Billionaire Business Look

We know it might sound crazy, but if it’s your first time wearing a bright-colored suit, go for blush—like this one Jay-Z wore at the 2020 Roc Nation brunch.

Pharrell Williams in Denim on Denim

When we say unique suits, this is what we’re talking about. An all denim suit is something you rarely see in life—unless of course you are Pharrell Williams, creative director of Men’s Louis Vuitton.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

There are looks, and then there are LOOKS. And if you are looking to go all out, look no further than what Shai Gilgeous-Alexander wore to the 2023 Met Gala. Holy, indeed.
