“From the moment I got you, Sunday, you were more than just my dogโฆ
You were my peace. My protector. A reminder of everything beautiful and calm just like those early Sunday mornings,” he captioned a heartfelt Instagram reel of his dog, named Sunday, including a snippet of him playfully kissing and petting his beloved pet. “You hugged like no other. Barked at nothing like it meant everything. And every time I called your name, you came running full speed like your only mission was to love me. You waited at the door for me every single day, just to wrap your paws around me,” he added, sharing how he will “miss those hugs more than I can put into words.”
Howard, 39, called his late dog his “joy. You were warmth. You were my girl,” who “helped me Smile through all the Storms Iโve been through but what do I do now that my Sunday Sunshine is gone ๐ข I was having a great time in New York this past week until I got the news that my Sunday got loose and was hit by a car.”
His caption added how his pet “never left my side” and questioned how someone “could be so heartless to do this to such an innocent girl with no remorse ๐ช. Iโve been trying to hold this inโฆ I really have but itโs killing me inside to get answers! I need answers and I wonโt stop searching until I find out what happen to my beautiful Sunday ๐ข๐ข๐ข.”
Sunday, a Belgian Malinois, was reportedly killed after a hit-and-run accident on June 18 in Suwanee, Georgia. Howard shared that after his dog was hit, the car simply “kept going.” He concluded his post asking for anyone with information about Sunday’s death to contact him immediately.
Fans took to the comment section to share their condolences with the former NBA center. “I am so sorry for your loss. My heart is breaking for Sunday. Your tribute to her was beautiful. It is clear you were the best of friends. I pray you get justice for Sunday,” one person wrote. A second Instagram user commented how their “fur baby passed away on June 8th. Iโm still devastated ๐ข praying for healing for you. They are our family.” Another supporter penned, “Iโm so sorry Dwight, wishing nun but the best,” while one person wrote, “Watching my dog get old is tough. Sending love your way.”
According to reports, it’s unclear if the Suwanee police are investigating the alleged hit-and-run.
