It’s no surprise when internet star and comedian Druski‘s skit’s go viral. But his latest one appears to have done that and a whole lot more, sparking strong reactions from two completely different demographics.

In case you’re unfamiliar, Druski rose to prominence in 2017 when he started posting satirical skits about Black culture to social media. Over the last few years, his following, memes, and impact have allowed him to collab with other popular internet streamers like Kai Cenat and work with mega-celebs like Kevin Hart.
Despite his proximity to greater opportunities, Druski is staying true to the skits that have brought him his success.
However, his latest one– entitled “The Guy Who’s Proud to Be an American”-– just might land him in a little more hot water than usual. The reason why is because he decided to tackle a particular subgroup of people in this country: racist white people. While that, on the surface, doesn’t sound like it would cause too much hubub, the thing that took this skit from zero to 100 was the fact that Druski donned “white face” a.k.a. sprayed his entire body in impressive paint that made him look like a perfectly sunburned white man.
Complete with a mullet, fake American flag tattoos, half-done/saggy overalls and more, Druski popped up at an actual NASCAR race to party with his “fellow” white compadres. What’s more, he even made sure to spit at or in the direction of the random Black people that were also in attendance, even going to far as to ask one Black man “if he was lost.”
Yet and still, it was the white face that got folks turnt all the way up on social media and left many user split on how they feel about it.
For some users on X/Twitter, they couldn’t get over the fact that the makeup was so good to where Druski could actually pass for a legitimate white man.
“This is the most impressive whiteface I’ve ever seen. The makeup must have taken hours lmaoo,” wrote one user.
“White face is way funnier than black face cause how tf did they make him sun burn,” said another.
“Been scrolling by this not understanding why yall kept putting this white man all over my tl. Whole time it’s f*cking druski,” one other user wrote.
However, there were some who expressed fears that Druski’s white face virality would unintentionally be the impetus for actual racist white comedian’s to put on blackface (once again) for a laugh. But as some users rightly pointed out, Black people have a long and ugly history with white people doing blackface which makes the execution and intention behind that from yesteryear and what Druski is doing now two totally different things.

“The world’s most soft brained alcoholic white comedian is going to do blackface and get canceled and we’re going to enter into the absolutely the dumbest discourse cycle of all time,” one user said on X/Twitter.
“The Caucasian community feeling a way about Druski’s skit is completely laughable. How do you think Black people felt when we were being publicly humiliated through Blackface for decades on end? That medicine don’t taste too good, huh?” wrote another.
One user broke it all the way down, explaining: “Why is @druski skit funny, while ‘Blackface’ is racist? For one, Druski actually looks like a white guy and is making light hearted jokes, which is why he blended in with actual white people. Historically when whites do blackface, they neither look like a real black person, and the jokes are always to depict them as ugly, lazy, dumb, oversexualized and dangerous.”
There were even some white people who came to Druski’s defense and made sure to highlight the differentiating things between blackface and whiteface. For TikTok user Derek, he explained that while both weren’t good, the latter is a bit different and not as historically and inherently malicious and racist as the former.
“The makeup is just too good. It’s not offensive if it’s that good. Unless he was doing some really offensive stuff, then it has nothing to do with his skin color at all, which is the whole point and it has to do with the culture,” he explained. “So if you’re mad about it, you’re mad about it because he’s making fun of your culture not your skin color because whoever did that makeup is great.”
Fellow TikTok user BigRed, who is also white, didn’t understand why people were getting upset about it, describing Druski’s skit as “peak” and “perfect.”
“White people are not getting mad, especially if you’re in the Southern culture. Because he embodied the Nascar persona perfectly. Like, you see those people at Nascar races and we love them. It’s great man, we love it” he said.
He went on to say that the people who are getting upset need to go outside and “touch grass” and that comedy has to stop being so soft.
BigRed’s feelings aside though, there were and are still a handful of people upset at the whiteface with some calling for Druski to be cancelled.
“Also druski is a racist pos, Ive been saying it for years. He kicked white people out of his talent show without hearing them and laughed with everyone saying it’s because white people don’t have souls. This was broadcasted on his yt channel. He’s not just joking. He’s racist,” wrote one user.
“He needs to be cancelled for this, this is absolutely awful,” said another.
The skit even made it as a spot on a local news station. But it doesn’t seem like the threat of cancel culture is making the young comedian feel any type of way as evidenced by a followup video he posted of him kicking in a door, lighting a cigarette and walking through a hallway.
His caption was arguably just as spot on as his video: “AM I CANCELLED?”
