If you didn’t know, last year, after playing only 18 shows, Glover — who goes by Childish Gambino on stage — canceled his “New World” tour with a post on X that stated he needed “time out to heal” from an ailment he did not disclose to his fans, according to Variety.

Now, yesterday (Nov. 22), for the first time since last year, the “Heartbeat” rapper took the stage at Tyler, The Creator’s weekend festival Camp Flog Gnaw. As he sat on stage engaging with his fans, he noted that they were expecting a monologue from him explaining where he had disappeared to.

“You guys voted for a ‘where have I been?’ monologue. Okay, so I was doing this world tour,” Glover said. “I was having lots of fun, really loving seeing you guys out there. I had a really bad pain in my head in Louisiana, and I did the show anyway. I couldn’t really see well. So, when we went to Houston, I went to the hospital, and the doctor was like, ‘You had a stroke.’”

Glover then made a joke about how he felt like he was copying Jamie Foxx, who had a stroke in 2023 because of his brain bleeding, according to the BBC. Then the “Community” star added on a more serious note that he felt like he was letting everyone down because he had to cancel his shows to recover.

“I’m letting everybody down…I know it’s not true, but I’ve broken my foot. I always promised Ireland I was going to be there, and I still haven’t been. They found a hole in my heart, so I had this surgery. Then I had to have another surgery.”

However, the health scare has only given Glover a stronger lust for life, as he ended his monologue with an inspiring message for his fans.

“They say everybody has two lives, and the second life starts when you realize you have one. You’ve got one life, guys. And I’ve gotta be honest, the life I’ve lived with you guys is such a blessing… You should be living your life how you want, because it can only get better.”

Online, Glover’s monologue was received with a bunch of love from fans who are happy to know that he is doing better and feel inspired by his message.

“Wooow. That explains why he seemed to go MIA for so long. That’s heavy stuff to deal with. Glad he seems to be doing much better now. Good message at the end there too. “You got one life.” “You should be living your life how you want,” wrote one user on X.

“That really hit. We really do live two lives. Once your world is shattered by something and that realization of “this is it” slams into you, everything changes. How you view the world, realizing the people you have to be there for. Priorities shift in a major way,” added another.

“Damn, I’m just glad to hear he’s okay, not everyone lives thru somethin like that to be able to talk about it. Hope he continues to recover smoothly,” added another.

“WOW-OMG! I love me some Childish…I hope he has a safe and speedy recovery, fr. That couldn’t have been easy news for himself, his family and friends, and his fans. Get better,” wrote another.
