When someone is accused of the crimes that Sean βDiddyβ Combs is alleged to have committed, it leads to questions about where the alleged behavior all came from. Over the years, the music mogul has been very open about his humble beginnings, but have we ever truly known the real Sean Combs?

Legend has it that his father worked for Harlem Mobsters Frank Lucas and Nicky Barnes but Diddy quickly corrected the reporter and the rumors. He said his father didnβt work for the two gangsters but had his own crew and was a drug βKingpinβ in his own right, on the same level as Lucas and Barnes, the two gangsters whose lives inspired movies and televisions series, one of them starring Denzel Washington.
βThatβs not something I glorify, but he was in Harlem and he was doing his thing, selling narcotics,β Combs said. βAnd we all know what that gets you. Thatβs only going to have you end up in jail or dead. It is the reason whyI didnβt follow in those footsteps.β
Though he didnβt specifically follow his fatherβs lead, he admits that there are similarities between them, explaining, βIβm definitely like him, but Iβm just doing it in a legal way.β
He revealed that he didnβt find out the truth about his father until he began to research. βThat was before the internet,ββ he said.
He found a newspaper article about his dadβs funeral. The article focused on the familyβs glamour, his mom wearing a floor-length fur coat at the funeral and Diddy, who was only three, sporting a mink coat. βThat was the story...our family.ββ
Diddy noted that the same drive that made him successful in the music world would have pushed him to be just like his father.
In the interview, Diddy told the reporter βI understood why my mother didnβt tell me the truth,β he said. βWhere I was living, I would have probably been one of the biggest drug dealers out there, because I would have the type of person I would have wanted to follow in my fatherβs footsteps.β
Things took an interesting turn when he was asked by the reporter if people know βthe real Sean Combs.β He immediately responded βno.β
Diddy pleaded not guilty to the charges and has maintained his innocence of all the allegations against him, but the disturbing details in the indictment present the alleged actions of someone we never really knew.
Near the ending of the video, Diddy encouraged the world to watch the ending of his story, and to do that βYou have to come along for the ride. Thatβs part of the journey.β
He said you donβt follow someone for twenty years and not watch the end of the movie. Then he, smiled. βBelieve me, I have an action-packed ending for you.β
