New year, new Angel Reese? Thatβs the question on some of her fansβ minds thanks to a new move she recently pulled on social media.
After posting a series of stunning pictures in a revealing animal print dress on New Yearβs Eve, the popular Chicago Sky player shocked all of her followers when she abruptly deleted the post and seemingly deactivated her entire Instagram account. Thankfully, Reeseβs TikTok account was still live which gave her fans another chance to see her in the gorgeous dress.

Still, once the news of her Instagram deactivation went viral, folks took to X/Twitter to speculate on exactly why Reese would say goodbye to social media just before 2025.
Some cited the potential backlash she received after posting the aforementioned pictures with one user writing: βWhoever is hating on angel reese and caused her to deactivate her instagram. i hope yall have a terrible year, spreading hate for no reason cuz yall are bitter and have no better things to do but spew nasty words behind a screen gtfoh.β

Another user questioned, βWhat yβall done did to my girl angel Reese to make her deactivate her instagram?β
One other user took a more comical approach and posed a question to the men who had so much to say about Reese and her attractiveness, writing:
βMy whole thing with Angel Reese is what yβall got against her being a bad bitch?? Like are you niggas geigh?? Why yβall hate her for that? Lmaoβ
However, one user may have cracked the code on Reeseβs social media βdisappearanceβ when they hyopthesized that it had nothing to do with the backlash and moreso to do with the fact that sheβs scheduled to play in the Unrivaled league coming up soon.
βAngel Reese deleted her IG, to lock in for Unrivaled. Not cuz of yβall,β the user wrote.
Per the official website, Unrivaled is βan innovative 3v3 professional womenβs basketball league founded by two current U.S. Olympians, Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart. The league will feature 6 teams, with 6 players on each team. The inaugural season is January of 2025 in Miami.β Itβs set to feature 36 top professional womenβs basketball players.
Reese previously spoke about her decision to join the Unrivaled League back in Aug. 2024, telling Sports Illustrated at the time:
Being able to be in Miami from January to March, not having to go overseas. Nobody wants to go overseas. A lot of us never wanna have to go overseas, but some people do have to go overseas unfortunately, so being able to make six figures within three months, being able to be housed in Miami, just being able to get better.
βBeing able to know two great players that are starting something, I think itβs amazing,β continued Reese. β3-on-3 is something that I love to do, I havenβt been able to play competitively but I think I can work on some of my individual skills because 3-on-3 exposes everything. So Iβm excited for it,β she concluded.
