We all have that one neighbor we try to avoid at all costs, but one white man’s alleged racist attack on his Black neighbors in Michigan just took things to a brand new low. Now, Martin Sitto may face the consequences after police had to be called on him not once… but twice.

Hazel Park police were called the first time on June 29 around 5 p.m. in response to allegations that Sitto, 43, was yelling and had even trespassed onto the property of his Black neighbor, according to C & G Newspapers. Details concerning what happened before officials arrived to the scene are still under investigation, but when police got there, they simply warned him to stay away. Shockingly– or not so much— this is not where the story ends.
At 8:54 p.m. that same evening, officers arrived to the neighborhood again, and this time, they reportedly witnessed Sitto screaming and cursing at his Black neighbors. Hazel Park Police Chief William Hamel even described Sitto as verbally abusive and irate during the encounter, according to WDIV. Sitto was reportedly seen spitting on, throwing punches at his Black neighbors, and yelling out, “white race is ending!”
Eventually, the 43-year-old was placed in hand cuffs while still spewing racial slurs and other profanities at his neighbors. That’s when police began interviewing witnesses and the alleged victims to get the full story.
According to the victim, a Black woman, Sitto started throwing items at her home from outside. She quickly rushed to see what the commotion was and told him to stop. This eventually led to Sitto allegedly throwing a tree branch at her and trying to punch her, police documents say. The woman didn’t go down without a fight. Instead, she pushed him to the ground and punched him in the face when he allegedly took another swing at her.
Another neighbor, a Black man, saw the scuffle between the woman and Sitto. That’s when he tried to intervene and separate them, but instead, the white man turned on the Black man and tried to assault him, even damaging property in the yard, witness statements claim. An additional witness, who was white, claimed Sitto threatened to slit the woman’s throat, C & G Newspapers reported.
With this information, police charged the 43-year-old with hate crime using force, assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer, assault and battery and trespassing, according to WDIV. His bond was set at $25,000, and he is not allowed to contact the alleged victims.
This is not the first time Sitto has been at the center of a violent incident. One unidentified neighbor told WDIV, “I’ve been here for about a year, and it was peaceful until he came back.” They continued, “He would shout things like, ‘Go back to Africa,’ and make threats that were violent and disturbing– not just once, but constantly.”
Authorities said Sitto has a history of mental health issues and addiction, the Inquisitr reported. His previous criminal charges include domestic violence, assault with a dangerous weapon and felony assault.
Chief Hamel commended his officers for taking the appropriate actions. “I would encourage people that have an aggressive or hateful neighbor to not escalate the situation by engaging with the person in an aggressive manner,” he said. “It would be best to just contact police about the behavior.”
