As we move into the end of the year, movie releases are picking up. From family fare, to star-studded holiday fun, to awards contenders, we’re about to see a smorgasbord of films hit theaters. Denzel Washington, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jamie Foxx and Megan Thee Stallion all have highly-anticipated releases on the schedule. To help you fit these movies into your holiday plans, check out our 2024 fall movie preview.

Oct. 20: ‘Scouting for Christmas’ – Hallmark

Tamera Mowry-Housley stars as a busy single mom who finds herself connecting with the local bakery owner during her daughter’s big scout holiday party. Obviously, they fall in love amidst holiday magic.

Oct. 31: ‘Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Own Words’ – Prime Video

After years of rumors and headlines, the rap superstar finally tells her own story. Meg is such an inspiration to her fans, it will be fascinating to see the woman behind the larger than life performer.

Nov. 6: ‘Meet Me Next Christmas’ – Netflix

Christina Milian races the clock to find holiday romance and get into the Pentatonix Christmas concert.

Nov. 8: ‘The Piano Lesson’ – Netflix

Directed and co-written by Malcolm Washington, produced by Denzel Washington and starring John David Washington; Samuel L. Jackson; Danielle Deadwyler; Corey Hawkins; Ray Fisher; and Erykah Badu, this adaptation of the Broadway play is destined to become a classic.

Nov. 15: ‘Red One’

If someone kidnaps Santa Claus, obviously you need to call Chris Evans and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Nov. 15: ‘Back in Action – Netflix

Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz reunite as married spies who are drawn back into the business after their cover life is discovered.

Nov. 22: ‘Gladiator II’

The sequel to the action epic follows a grown up Lucius as he fights against the corrupt emperors. But what we’re really here for is Denzel Washington as powerful businessman/gladiator sponsor Macrinus.

Nov. 22: ‘Wicked’

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande’s Elphaba and Glinda ‘Defy Gravity’ in the long-awaited film adaptation of the popular stage musical. This is only “Part One,” with “Part Twp” flying into theaters November 2025.

Nov. 27: ‘Moana 2’

We know you still have “You’re Welcome” stuck in your head, but get ready for a whole new crop of fun, catchy songs to drive you crazy in the best possible way. Auliʻi Cravalho is back as Moana, alongside Dwayne Johnson as Maui.

Dec. 20: ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’

Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. voice younger versions of Simba and Taka a.k.a. Scar respectively as we find out the real story behind their frayed relationship.

Dec. 20: ‘The Six Triple Eight’ – Netflix

Tyler Perry is taking on a historical epic as he tells the story of the Black women who served in the Women’s Army Corps during WWII. Kerry Washington, Ebony Obsidian and Oprah Winfrey lead an all-star cast. We’re all for having more stories of how Black women kept this country going when it needed them most.
