Snoop Dogg has probably heard it all from the Black community after heβ along with Nelly and Soulja Boyβ performed at this yearβs Crypto Ball, an event celebrating President Donald Trumpβs inauguration. But now, Snoop is catching it from comedian D.L. Hughley who says the rapper made the wrong move.
The Root previously reported on Snoop Doggβ real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.β responding to critics following his choice to perform at the Trump event. Snoop claimed on Instagram, βBlack people are great at tearing each other down,β but Hughley doesnβt think the issue is within the community.

βIt isnβt anger or hate. It is honestly people being disappointed,β Hughley said during the Jan. 28 episode of βThe D.L. Hughley Showβ podcast. βBut why is the most common refrain whenever somebody gets in a situation like that, you tell us we canβt stick together?β
The real issue, according to Hughley, is Snoopβs battle with himself. βIt isnβt us that you have a problem with, it is you,β Hughley continued. βThe 2025 version of you is at odds with the 2017 version of you. So it ainβt the us that gotta get it together, itβs the you. You need to have a conversation with the man in the mirror.β
Hughleyβs brutal honesty comes after fans pointed out Snoopβs stark difference of opinions in 2025 compared to when Trump was elected... the first time. βSo ainβt no one gonna perform for Donald Trump huh? Which one of you jigaboo a** n****s gone be the first one to do it. Iβm waitingβ¦ Iβm gonna roast the fuck out of one of you uncle tom a** n****s for doing it,β Snoop said in full critque of Trump supporters back in 2017.
So what changed with the βGin and Juiceβ rapper? Well, everyone is still trying to figure that out, but Hughley said one thing that remained the same is the Black communityβs decision not to support the 45th or the 47th president.
βWe decided that this was a man who was bad for our community, we stuck together,β Hughley said of Trump. Not only that, but Hughley also pointed out controversial efforts made by the Trump Administration to ban DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), target immigrants, and attack fundamental policies for Black people.
βThe very person who you perform for is doing just that: tearing this country apart, families apart. Heβs dismantling DEI and affirmative action and long-set precedents,β the comedian continued. βAnd every time somebody gets into a situation of their own doing, it is always βa communal attackβ or βa communityβs attack.ββ
Sometimes you have to admit when you mess up, and Hughley just wants Snoop to take some accountability. βPeople love you, but they dislike what you did,β he continued. βAnd thereβs nothing more loving than that.β
Snoop has yet to respond to Hughleyβs comments.
