D.L. Hughley Claps at Snoop Dogg Over His Defense of Performing at Trump Inauguration Event

The comedian had choice words for Snoop Dogg after he responded to Crypto Ball criticism.

Snoop Dogg has probably heard it all from the Black community after heβ€” along with Nelly and Soulja Boyβ€” performed at this year’s Crypto Ball, an event celebrating President Donald Trump’s inauguration. But now, Snoop is catching it from comedian D.L. Hughley who says the rapper made the wrong move.

The Root previously reported on Snoop Doggβ€” real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.β€” responding to critics following his choice to perform at the Trump event. Snoop claimed on Instagram, β€œBlack people are great at tearing each other down,” but Hughley doesn’t think the issue is within the community.

β€œIt isn’t anger or hate. It is honestly people being disappointed,” Hughley said during the Jan. 28 episode of β€œThe D.L. Hughley Show” podcast. β€œBut why is the most common refrain whenever somebody gets in a situation like that, you tell us we can’t stick together?”

The real issue, according to Hughley, is Snoop’s battle with himself. β€œIt isn’t us that you have a problem with, it is you,” Hughley continued. β€œThe 2025 version of you is at odds with the 2017 version of you. So it ain’t the us that gotta get it together, it’s the you. You need to have a conversation with the man in the mirror.”

Hughley’s brutal honesty comes after fans pointed out Snoop’s stark difference of opinions in 2025 compared to when Trump was elected... the first time. β€œSo ain’t no one gonna perform for Donald Trump huh? Which one of you jigaboo a** n****s gone be the first one to do it. I’m waiting… I’m gonna roast the fuck out of one of you uncle tom a** n****s for doing it,” Snoop said in full critque of Trump supporters back in 2017.

So what changed with the β€œGin and Juice” rapper? Well, everyone is still trying to figure that out, but Hughley said one thing that remained the same is the Black community’s decision not to support the 45th or the 47th president.

β€œWe decided that this was a man who was bad for our community, we stuck together,” Hughley said of Trump. Not only that, but Hughley also pointed out controversial efforts made by the Trump Administration to ban DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), target immigrants, and attack fundamental policies for Black people.

β€œThe very person who you perform for is doing just that: tearing this country apart, families apart. He’s dismantling DEI and affirmative action and long-set precedents,” the comedian continued. β€œAnd every time somebody gets into a situation of their own doing, it is always β€˜a communal attack’ or β€˜a community’s attack.’”

Sometimes you have to admit when you mess up, and Hughley just wants Snoop to take some accountability. β€œPeople love you, but they dislike what you did,” he continued. β€œAnd there’s nothing more loving than that.”

Snoop has yet to respond to Hughley’s comments.
