Cynthia Erivo Reveals the Real Reason Why She Unapologetically Rocks a Bald Head

Cynthia Erivo is standing ten toes down when it comes to rocking her bald head, and she’s revealing the inspiration around her signature look.

Cynthia Erivo has always been known for her powerhouse vocals, but she’s simultaneously been a standout in the industry due to her striking physical appearance, specifically her bald head. And now we know why she’s standing ten toes down on her look.

Over the years, back when Erivo was on Broadway and in subsequent films, she’s rocked numerous hairstyles. But it wasn’t until she got the role as “Elphaba” in the popular 2023 film “Wicked” that she decided to completely go bald so her signature braided wig could look natural.

Now, speaking in a new interview as the cover star for the November issue of “Harper’s Bazaar,” Erivo shedded more light on why she continues to embrace the look now.

“This is what I want to look like. I love a heel, I love a nail, I love a jaw, I love a bald head, I love a good outfit,” she said. “It is legitimately a way of just expressing parts of myself.”

She went on to say that by embracing her own unique look, she hopes that it serves as inspiration for other people to be confident in how they show up in the world and confident in their own beauty.

“If it’s the only thing I put into this world, that everyone’s individual beauty is worth seeing and experiencing, and you don’t have to change it for anyone else other than yourself, then I’m happy,” Erivo said. “If you want to change, and you want to get a new nose, you want to get new lips, fine. If that’s good for you, then that’s good for you— as long as it’s for you.”

But while she’s no doubt rocking her bald look with pride, she previously made it abundantly clear that she has no time for people trying to come after her what she chooses to do with her hair.

“I keep spotting people saying, why is she bald? She needs to get a wig,’” she said in an interview with Elle UK in December 2024. “Why does it bother you so much that I don’t want to wander around with blonde tresses? I like my bald head. There’s nothing wrong with my hair – it grows in very fast. I just like my face.”
