In a recent clip from an interview thatβs now gone viral on social media, Tony revealed the surprising issue he had with the βSpiralβ actor during a conversation with cohost and comedian Aries Spears for their βLive From the Green Roomβ podcast.
When Spears told the βAll Of Usβ star that he was puzzled at the fact that heβd never seen the two siblings in a project together, Tony shared that he was also salty with his brother for not casting him in projects over the years and cited the 2010 film βDeath at a Funeralβ and the 2005 film βThe Longest Yardβ starring Adam Sandler as examples.
In attempt to explain why his brother chose not to cast him in βDeath at a Funeral,β in which fellow comedic actor Martin Lawrence was chosen to play Chrisβ brother, Tony explained:
My brother sometimes...heβs a businessman when it comes to his movies and TV stuff. Martin is bigger than me. [Speaking as Chris] βI need to sell this movie, Tone is my brother, yes there will be some βhey him and his brother are in a movie, letβs go check it out.ββ But him and Martin pushed the needle more. Iβm only speaking on that movie, in that regard. I was like βI get itβ, OK. I get it.β
Tony then went on to share how he was also bothered by Chrisβ 2014 film βTop Five,β because his brother allegedly offered him a role unprovokedβbut then dropped the ball. In fact, Tony revealed that he was only alerted that the film had gone into production by other members of the team who called him questioning where he was on set and subsequently why he was absent at the wrap party once filming was over.
βYo, bruh, that shit crushed me. That shit crushed me. Iβve never seen the move βTop Five,ββ Tony explained. βI shouldnβt have to call. You said to your brother βIβm gonna put you in a movie.β I should just get a phone call like βyo tomorrow be here, two oβclock we shoot.β Or βyo give me your email, Iβm gonna send you the sidesβ or whatever. Bruh, it devastated me.β
The irony in all of this? Tonyβs most popular role came from the early 2000s show on UPN called βAll of Usββwhich was executive produced by Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith. In an interview back in June, Tony talked about his βincredibleβ experience working with Will and how that led to him being casted in βHitch,β though his scenes were ultimately cut.
Tony speaking pleasantly of working with Will is in stark contrast to how he was talking in the immediate aftermath of the now infamous Oscars slap involving the βFresh Princeβ star and his brother. But it appears the two may be back on better terms now.
