For years, Russell Wilson has been branded as “corny” by critics who can’t seem to process a Black man showing up for his wife and family with love, consistency, and devotion. During Friday’s episode of “The Breakfast Club,” Charlamagne tha God attempted to revisit that narrative — but Ciara wasn’t here for the nonsense.

Not only did she shut down the “corny” talk once and for all, she gave a flawless demonstration of what it looks like to defend your man unapologetically.
“The Giants are gonna be terrible,” Charlamagne boldly told Ciara. Before he could even finish, she doused his negativity with a loving smile — and a fierce clapback.
“No, no, no, no let me tell you right now. I love you dearly, but you cannot look at me and tell me that the team my husband’s gonna be on is gonna be terrible. I’m just not gonna allow that,” the singer said. “I understand the history. That franchises, they evolve and they go through things. But we’re gonna speak life over here,” she doubled down.
The host circled back to get Ciara’s “honest reaction” to the rumors that her husband is “corny” — a label conjured up by fans because of his perceived square personality and so-called “simp” behavior. Ciara argued that folks should pay attention to who’s doing the talking and asked whether these people have actually “been loved right” before.
“Oh my gosh, I don’t even have to reply to that,” the singer said. “He is the most amazing human being you could know. The smartest, most intelligent, Black man that I have ever known. What you see with him, is really who he is. It’s different. It’s beautiful.”
She continued: “I feel blessed that when I look at my husband, that standard is top tier,” she added. “It’s like my dad’s love. That’s the truest love I’ve known from a man. So to see that, is a blessing.”
On one hand, folks argued that Wilson is, in fact, a simp for taking on a woman who was a “babymomna to a pookie,” while others countered that if that relationship is what “corny” looks like, sign them up! “Clock it,” one fan said of the singer’s elegant reply in a repost on Twitter.
Ciara’s clapback was a lesson in defending Black love and Black men in a culture that often mocks Wilson for his devotion to his wife and family. She reminded everyone that loyalty, respect, and unapologetic support aren’t “corny” — they’re powerful.
And if anyone still has questions, Ciara made it clear: she’s here to protect her family and her peace. And she’s not backing down from anyone.
