A Chicago mother had allowed her infant’s father to spend one week with him. After that time, the father returned the 2-month-old “covered” up in a stroller and allegedly told the mother he was asleep. But what she discovered immediately after led to a parent’s worst nightmare, and felony charges.

It was April 28 when 23-year-old Anthony Evans had returned his infant son to his mother, Kayla Flowers, one week after he first got him, according to Chicago police. Evans returned the infant, identified as Kayson Flowers by his family on Facebook, in a car seat/stroller and allegedly told Kayla he was taking a nap.
Kayla told local Chicago news station ABC 7 that she didn’t think “anything of it. Because it was raining, I just took my baby to the house, because I didn’t want my child to get sick.” After she and Kayson went inside the home, that’s when the mom discovered her son was “unresponsive” and “black and blue.”
The infant was later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to reports. But a “Justice For’Kayson” Facebook page said doctors told his family he had “likely already been dead for six to eight hours.” A coroner ruled baby Kayson died from multiple injuries as a result of child abuse, ABC 7 reported. His death was ruled a homicide, according to local news station Fox 14.
“My son didn’t deserve that,” Kayla told ABC 7 in May. “He was only two months… two months. He can’t fight back. This is heartbreaking for me seeing my child in that condition.”
Now, five months later, Evans has been charged with one felony count of murder with strong probability of death/injury. The suspect was arrested on November 10 in the 4700 block of S. Champlain Ave. He has not been charged with child abuse.
“We are grateful for the news that an arrest has been made in his murder case,” Kayson’s family said on Facebook, with requests to “keep the Flowers family in your prayers.” They added: “While justice cannot bring Kayson back, we are thankful for this latest step in bringing closure and a measure of peace to all who loved him.”
