Soap-opera fanatics and those of us who can't resist the promise of a black actress cast as a smart, tough and beautiful character will be tuning in to see Annie Ilonozeh in her role on ABC's new Charlie’s Angels series.

The 27-year-old, who is best know for playing Maya Ward on General Hospital, is the first of the three angels to be cast. Her character, Kate, is an ex-cop and martial arts expert and is said to be the most serious of the trio of private eyes.

While we at The Root will of course be watching with our black-female-stereotype detectors fully activated (come on — if we don't put a damper on your fluff television experience by making it all about race, who will?), we're cautiously optimistic about this role's potential.
