Mommy Made Encapsulation shared a video on TikTok of how they turned Cardi’s dehydrated umbilical cord into a piece of gold jewelry. In addition to creating the golden mementos, the California-based business specializes in placenta encapsulation, in which they turn the placenta into powder-filled capsules, which when taken by the mother, can give them higher energy levels, increased milk supply and help them lose their baby weight faster.
“From lifeline to little piece of art,” they captioned the post of Cardi’s umbilical cord transformation, which has received more than 130,000 likes and nearly 1,000 comments to date.

Some who saw the clip thought the idea of finding a way to save the lifeline that carries food and oxygen between mother and baby during pregnancy as a keepsake was precious.
“I don’t understand why ppl think mother’s are weird for making a keepsake like this. Women can be proud of their bodies for making a human. It’s amazing what our bodies can do!!” wrote someone on TikTok.
Others, of course, thought the whole thing was gross.
“That’s kind of disgusting if I’m honest,” wrote someone on X.
Believe it or not, the most commonly asked question came from commenters who were baffled at why the umbilical cord was blue in the video.
“I don’t even care that it’s the umbilical cord why is it blue raspberry flavored???” wrote someone on TikTok.
According to NL Health Services, the umbilical cord is a bluish-white color immediately following birth. After the cord is cut and the stump has sealed, it gets darker as the area dries. The more you know…
