Cynthia Vann, a 55-year-old mother, was admitted to Lincoln Hospital in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx for liver treatment. During her stay, she was the victim of a tragic incident that would ultimately cost her her life, and Vann’s daughter is pointing fingers at those caring for her.

According to News 12 Bronx, Vann’s daughter, Taneisha, says she was informed by the hospital that her mother was attacked in her sleep by her hospital roommate on September 10. Vann underwent emergency surgery but ultimately died from her injuries two weeks later on September 27. According to the medical examiner, Vann’s cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Taneisha, who called the incident “heartbreaking,” is still in shock that her mother had to endure such horrific violence in a place where she should have felt safe. She said she is angry that the hospital staff allowed the attack to happen while her mother was in their care.

“She didn’t deserve this. No one deserves to be assaulted at a hospital while you’re sleeping,” she said. “You’re supposed to feel safe.”

According to News 12, Vann’s hospital roommate, whose name has not been released but has been linked to previous violent incidents, is currently on the run. In the meantime, Vann’s daughter, who was looking forward to celebrating her mother’s upcoming 56th birthday, told News 12 that she is trying to find a way to move on after such a tragic loss.

“I’m broken inside,” she said. “It’s very difficult. My mom was my support system. She was really all I had.”
