Decked in a T-Shirt emblazoned with the names of murdered black men, including Eric Garner and Trayvon Martin, British singer and producer Devonté Hynes alleges he was attacked by security guards after a recent performance at Lollapalooza, Buzzfeed reports.
Hynes, known as Blood Orange, announced on Twitter that he and his girlfriend, Samantha Urbani, were assaulted Friday after a performance at the Chicago festival, where he gave a speech against racism and police brutality.
Festival organizers issued a statement to Pitchfork about the incident.
“Late Friday night, we learned of an incident involving an artist and a security guard on site,” the statement reads. “Since then, we have been in contact with those involved and the authorities, as we work together to resolve the situation. As always, our top priority is to ensure the safety of everyone at the festival.”
If true, the incident represents another black eye on a city known for its tribulations with crime and elected officials need to hunker down to get to the root of the problem so they can develop solutions.
