After the longest government shutdown in the history of the U.S, the Trump administration will now require millions of low-income people to reapply for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) Benefits.

According to Politico, the new mandate is a part of a renewed effort to crack down on “fraud.” No details have been released about the new application process for SNAP recipients.
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said on Newsmax’s “Rob Schmitt Tonight” that she plans to “have everyone reapply for their benefits, to make sure that everyone that’s taking a taxpayer-funded benefit through…food stamps, that they literally are vulnerable and they can’t survive without it.”
Rollins also claimed that 186,000 “deceased men and women and children” are “receiving a check” through SNAP, citing data from 29 states from the USDA.
“This is just data from those 29 mostly red states. Can you imagine when we get our hands on the blue state data, what we’re going to find?” she said.
Interestingly, an April report by the Congressional Research Service described SNAP fraud as “rare,” noting that a large number of overpayments can be attributed to unintentional errors.
Although racialized propaganda and false media narratives still attempt to make SNAP recipients synonymous with Black people, the truth is that “white Americans are the largest racial group participating in the SNAP program.”
When the news broke about the Trump administration’s plan to have SNAP recipients reapply, Black Twitter was quick to chime in with their opinions about the issue.
One user pointed out that recipients are being asked to reapply without knowing if they will receive the benefits.
“So even though we received November benefits, we still have to deal with cuts and setbacks,” the post read. “Firstly, the fact that all SNAP RECIPIENTS have to reapply for benefits. With no guarantee that they will receive the same thing they had before! Wtf is wrong with the Trump Admin & Congress?”
Another user said that recipients are already required to periodically disclose their personal info to see if they are still eligible for the program.
“These ppl are stupid. He really put stupid ppl in charge of our personal information,” the user wrote. “The snap program already has these requirements -> The Trump administration will require SNAP participants to reapply for benefits.”
One user argued that the entire federal government is making the process worse.
“So Trump wants everyone to reapply for SNAP food stamps who are getting them. But states require you to recertify every 6 to 12 months, where they confirm and verify your financial situation and adjust your benefits accordingly,” the tweet read. “Something the government is already doing.”
Another user shed light on the ridiculous claims made by the MAGA crowd that immigrants are the cause of the current state of SNAP.
“Maga thinks illegal immigrants enter w/ diseased cattle, which raises food costs, are buying/renting up all the houses/apts, eating the cats & dogs, all while living off illegal SNAP benefits? Maga, you’re not being ‘great’ replaced, you’re literally dying off of stupidity,” the post stated.
One user said that Republicans act like an EBT card is an American Express Black Card.
“Y’all act like it’s a f**king black card,” the post read. “You literally can only buy food with Snap. Everyone deserves to eat.”
