On Wednesday, former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama released a statement congratulating Donald Trump and JD Vance on their presidential victory.
βThis is obviously not the outcome we had hoped for, given our profound disagreements with the Republican ticket on a whole host of issues,β the joint statement reads. βBut living in a democracy is about recognizing that our point of view wonβt always win out, and being willing to accept the peaceful transfer of power.β

Another X user, @AbrahamSte17914, believes that Barack and Michelle Obama have done enough for this country and deserve a break. βThank you for acknowledging and congratulating President - Elect Donald Trump but for you is high time you go and rest like many other former US Presidents...β
On Instagram, Barackβs post where he shared the joint remarks was flooded with positivity. One commenter, @cherae.lynn, wrote: β*sigh* Iβm saying thoughβ¦can you be the first president to have three terms?β
However, @thecoreyshow insisted: βWhy are we always being the bigger person. Trump should be in jail. Itβs time for the party to match their energy.β
The Obamasβ statement came just before Vice President Kamala Harrisβs concession speech from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
βWhile I concede this election. I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign,β Harris said. βI will never give up a fight for a future where Americans can pursue their dreams ambitions and aspirations.β
