Cam Newton isn’t a stranger to controversy. This time around, the former NFL player has gone viral for an August 23 interview he did with Dr. Cheyenne Bryant on his podcast “Funky Friday.” During the talk, the pair discussed Newton’s desire to have more children.
After sharing that he has eight children by three different women, Newton stated that he wanted more even though some folks might not agree with his lifestyle.

“A lot of people see my situation and think that I’m not high functioning,” he told Bryant. “I just want God to bring [more children]… Because my point is this: my desire to get married is lower than my fear of divorce.”
Bryant, a life coach, said Newton is “selfishly creating broken families” and the internet couldn’t wait to chime in.
One user, @Scrappmusiq, honestly stated: “The way men have convinced themselves of the lie that having a baby with a woman is less of a commitment than marrying them needs to be studied by every ologist under the sun.”
Another X personality, @stoppfeenin, echoed a similar sentiment: “Cam Newton’s brain needs to be studied in a lab. He’s telling Dr. Bryant that he desires to be married, but has 8 children by 3 women. She broke him down with the truth about his reality, but he can’t grasp the concept.”
Black women also clocked the interaction between Bryant and Newton. Musician @Miss_Mojo observed how gentle Bryant had to be in order for the star to receive her message. “It is not lost one me that she HAD to soften and coddle in her response for him to even be quiet enough to let her read.”
However, not everyone wanted to jump on the hate bandwagon. One person, @DelanoSquires, believed that the athlete’s reality is authentic to who he is. “Cam Newton is a multimillionaire. He fathered four children by his ex-gf. Like many Americans, he no longer believe marriage is *necessary* before creating children,” he wrote.
One woman, @damnnkriss, praised Newton’s honesty. “Cam Newton is the PERFECT example of why a lot of women choose to be single in todays world than deal with a male.. I’m so glad he spoke his most honest and genuine thoughts on that podcast,” she stated.
Newton seems quite proud of his family structure, but its controversial nature will always make for perfect online fodder.
