This is why they say be careful what you post online… Rory Farrell from the “New Rory & MAL” podcast is facing scrutiny after many of his old tweets have resurfaced, completely rubbing Black Americans the wrong way. He’s since apologized, but after his remarks about Beyoncé, some say they can’t forgive him.

Farrell has made quite the name for himself commenting on hip-hop, Black culture and Black news. He was famously part of the “Joe Budden Podcast” until he parted ways in 2021. Given his close proximity to Black culture– despite being a white man– Black fans of Farrell couldn’t believe any of his racist tweets that resurfaced this week. In the midst of the controversy, Farrell and his co-star, Mal, hopped on X Spaces, where they were immediately dragged.
“It’s not fair. You don’t ever have the room to even be partially racist,” one Black woman told Farrell while in Spaces. The podcaster apologized, but that didn’t undo the pain his tweets beginning in 2011 already caused.
Fans called him out for previously bashing Black women online. “I’ve never saw a good looking black woman,” one tweet from 2014 read. “How u slim tender yellabone but ya moms a fat b***h tar baby.. Nah b suhm dont add up i want no parts,” another 2012 post read.
Farrell even called out Beyoncé by name several times. “How much weave was sacrificed for King Bey today,” he tweeted. Another tweet even bashed Bey’s eldest daughter, Blue Ivy. “There wasn’t a comb on any of these video sets for Blu’s hair,” he said in 2013.
In X Spaces, Farrell first defended his tweets with sarcasm, adding that he is obviously a big part of hip hop culture even referencing his Black fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi. But eventually, Black flks dragged Farrell to the point of apologizing.
“This clip may be new to you, but it’s actually almost 10 years old,” he said. “All I can do is take ownership of having quoted these words in this way. And obviously say that I’m sorry. Which, I am, in fact, sorry about this.” He’s since deleted many of the racist tweets, although dozens more are still alive on the internet.
“Rory’s old tweets don’t surprise me in the slightest. White me that act like hip hop purist are almost always undercover racist who exhibit misogynoir,” @StarfireKidz wrote on X. “And they will alway have a dumb ass n***a that emboldens or shields their racism. Insert Mal’s tubby 5th grader dressed ass.”
@caramelkiwi tweeted, “Rory saying he had a black girlfriend that he lived with when he tweeted those tweets is the same thing as a racist person saying they have black friends.”
“What pisses me off the most is yall mfs just let anybody in black spaces…this mf was tweeting racist s**t while shimming in paraphernalia of a black fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi,” @millylovesmilly said.
